FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Being USA had the WC long ago should have gone elsewhere but it’s Infatino he looking to warm up the US pre WC.
Sth merica perfect but not during gold cup time as well.

As much as id love australia to host it, if fifa are smart they would do the next tournament in south america to give it a shot in the arm

The qualification process needs fixing. Need to get some heartbreak in people dramatically missing out as well as the euphoria of qualifying
That’s the issue with it being quadrennial - qualification means calculating multiple seasons’ results.

This tournament would’ve been a lot better if it wasn’t in the USA.

In Brazil, or somewhere in Europe would’ve been perfect. Maybe they can get rid of some needless tournaments to clear the international calendar (hello Nations league) and have this instead.
Teams are likely to play friendlies regardless. I feel the Nations League keeps them honest. A lot of international windows get thrown away otherwise.

The club WC provides football for a few across the world while the Nations League is for an entire confederation.

I think the club WC has to be in places where it would be easy to get to many games. USA and Australia have a lot of domestic flights but rail makes it easier in Europe.

How’s the Boca fans. I love them but fucking hell, crying when they score a goal in the club World Cup is wild 😆
bundle all of the latinos/sth mericans etc - they lose the plot but I agree I luv the passion coming out.

So AlHilal went pound for pound with RB.
Not surprised with some of the class players they have, should have won tbh.

I love these "ref cams". They seem to capture the best shots at ground level. They just need to add some more image stabilisation.

Just wanted to throw in here - since this is essentially a replacement for the confederations cup (which hasn’t been held for two editions now), this is what the participants would have theoretically been for these:

2021:
Qatar (host and AFC Asian Cup)
France (FIFA World Cup)
Japan (AFC Asian Cup Runners Up)
New Zealand (OFC Nations Cup)
Winner of Mexico v USA playoff (CONCACAF Cup)
Argentina* (CONMEBOL Copa America)
Italy* (UEFA Euros)
Senegal* (CAF African Cup of Nations)

2025:
USA (Host and 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup)
Mexico (Host and 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup)
Canada (Host)
Ivory Coast (CAF African Cup of Nations)
Qatar (AFC Asian Cup)
New Zealand (OFC Nations Cup)
Spain (UEFA Euros)
Argentina (FIFA World Cup and CONMEBOL Copa America)

I was thinking about @Decentric's claim that European teams often struggle to handle shorter nimble south american players
Is there a height difference between South American clubs and European

Here are the number of players in each xi shorter than 180cm

ClubConfederationnumber <180cm
RiverplateCONMENBOL6
JuventusUEFA1
Real MadridUEFA3
RB SalzburgUEFA7
Bayern MunichUEFA3
Boca JuniorsCONMENBOL7
Inter MilanUEFA5
DortmundUEFA1
FluminenseCONMENBOL5
PSGUEFA3
BotafogoCONMENBOL4
BenficaUEFA6
FlamengoCONMENBOL4
ChelseaUEFA5
PalmeirasCONMENBOL5
FC PortoUEFA5
Athletico MadridUEFA4

Average UEFA: 4.2
Average Conmenbol: 5.2
So not a massive difference. However, I noticed
1) Big 5 league clubs are less friendly to short players than other UEFA clubs
2) a lot of UEFA clubs are playing south american short players, suggesting that there will be a bigger difference in the international game
3) South American teams seemed more willing to play short players in central positions. Most short players for UEFA teams were fullbacks or wingers

So UEFA, especially in the big 5, probably do put more emphasis on height than south america. Mind you, since the A league needs to produce talent for European taste to survive financially they should probably do the same to be honest even if UEFA are wrong in their emphasis

So Atletico Madrid are out, their 1-0 win wasn't enough to overturn Botafogo who finish in 2nd place, a great achievement by the Brazilian club whom beat PSG earlier.

Atleti needed to score 2 more goals due to the F/A Barca.

Wow HT right now
Al Ahly 2 Porto 1

the other game on at the 50min mark
Miami 1 Palmeiras 0

Al Ahly vs Porto is going nuts, Al Ahly initially had the lead now its currently 3-3.

I'm watching Miami.
Saurez just dribbled through 2/3 left footer smashed into top L corner.
2up 66min mark.

Friggin Pal came back 80/87 min marks for 2-2.
Miami were running out of gas but hung on.
