Canberra is second in the alw but the season has just started
It’s not all about the results here unfortunately, it’s about the money. And our government would rather throw millions at the big bash league and AFL, than a couple hundred thousand at women’s football

That's been the case since (checks notes) forever.. all we can do is support the lads/lasses on the pitch

Appreciate the Hessen Kassel avatar to remember who you are. Welcome over here.
Thanks, I also appreciate your Hannover 96 avatar, I remember you too. They are also a nice club. I've been to a game at the Niedersachsenstadion.

Yeah a good start to the season. Quite a nice change compared to the last couple. But financially the team is hanging on by a thread. They had to seek emergency additional funding from the ACT Government to enable them to play this season. All this comes down to how much more expensive it is to compete in the ALW now compared to 10 years ago. And the stall in finding a combined owner for the ALM and ALW teams. Atm Canberra United is operated by Capital Football, not ideal as they have very limited funding as they are responsible for funding the grassroots too.

Makes me want to support them they are the ultimate underdogs

Im so jealous of you both... German football (as a weekly thing) seems absolute mint.....
it's a great culture, even in the fourth tier. Though the level of football in the fourth tier (Regionalliga) is worse than the ALM. I still had a chuckle seeing Alou Kuol play in Kassel when he was playing with the Stuttgart reserves. All I could think at the time is you've gone from the Mariners in the ALM to playing in the Regionalliga. It is a bit of a step down in quality in order to chase his euro dream. And in the end, he has ended up back in the ALM with CCM.

Yeah the culture is what draws me to it.... standing in the terrace every second week with your neighbours and friends is what I miss about living in Europe and Germany seems to do it better... For whatever little it is worth, I would be a Leverkusen fan (I have family there) but can imagine getting behind the local team if ever I where to live in Germany....

the Kuol path is quite typical we see from our fellas imo.
Is it the lack of respect being/coming from Oz still ?

By the way Volrath, you may not wish to answer but I see in your sig quoting Lewes FC - owner ?

Wait a minute. If it's the same Brew Decentric admitted using that account as a multi.
So I just had a read through the FFT forum and found this.

Looks like the user Decentric created a multi to have conversations with himself.

Weird stuff.

If he wants my username back (to continue such conversations) I'd be happy to negotiate.

The German system for youngsters sees them bringing in players from all over the world young and seeing if any of them can make it alongside the locals coming through. It is often hard and as we have seen quite a number of younger Aussies fail to make the grade and either then go to smaller euro countries or head back home after a few years.

Yeah Lewes are a community owned club in East Sussex near Brighton. They play in the Isthmian Premier League (men's 7th tier) and FA Women's National League South (women's 3rd tier). They were actually in the Women's Championship (2nd tier) but got relegated last season. Great little club with a great ground (The Dripping Pan) and cool matchday experience. They were saved from extinction with the community ownership model after their previous owner ran them into the ground. Great little English town with some great pubs and an amazing brewery in Harvey's Brewery. I don't know if they still do it but when I was there they would deliver beer on horse & carriage on game day from Harvey's Brewery.

So therefore it showing the many kids/up and comers don't seem to cut it trialing there amongst many many others.

Ok brilliant background on Lewes thanks, 7th/3rd levels men women how good.
You got me to suss it out - how friggin cool and as mentioned 7th level, makes ours look even more 2nd rate I'm jealous as !!!!!
The Jungle hahaha
Community ownership is the best good luck to them, this is what lacks here in spades especially having a local pub.

Community clubs are great. I really love the model. But they do have a ceiling of when they stop being competitive. Especially in a place like England where to reach to the top level of the Championship and Premier League, you need to have huge sums of money behind the team. It's maybe why I like the German system of sharing ownership at the top level between the community and financial backers who make it possible for Bundesliga clubs to be competitive at the top and in Europe.

I would love to see similar implemented and promoted in Australia as I feel it more deeply connects people to their club. But there are also plenty of people already deeply connected to their A-Leagues team or NPL/local club.

well forget in most case's going EFL let alone EPL.
Wrexham is the prime example of late. Without the 2 yanks resource originally and then luring more key sponsers we're talking big $$$'s I have been following it BUT i wonder how many of the local folk will hang in later on.
Their old identity will be getting washed down in time AND costs will lift ofcourse.
The price of success ? I don't know. I feel their last few years is success, I think I'd sooner stay in Championship or lower retaining that old feel for the EPL even though my long time fav Club is there its a different world.

I agree on the German 50+1 rule.
It is a good model barring how RB earned their way up but thats the outlier.
This system would work very well here IF implemented I feel.
Sure there is currently a % that are hard on supporters but not enough.
The system is stale and makes it hard for neutrals or general interested footballers/families to bother attending games after their own commitments.
I have invested sponser funds a number of times but its like pissing in the trough, front shirt sponser, ground signage, supplied kits etc but Club management treat you like a number, all they care is getting your $$ and play you and you don't really see the Club evolving as well as it needs.
Thats at NPL2/3.
Then at local association/Club, they bleed left/right centre, sponsered my own Club Team a number of times, hey great I see my branding, I'm not after a ROI but the Club overall struggles to make ends meet with the rising costs/council rates and dribbles that come from regos/Feds/FA.
They are trying to source $2M odd to help support getting synthetic pitchs, this last season we suffered some 6/7 wash outs, season ruined.
Their struggle is one of thousands right across the country naturally.
Womens toilets etc need upgrades etcetc....
A community funded system would really help getting somewhere alot quicker than the Feds/FA getting $$ down to grass roots.
