James Johnson suit wearer interviewed on talksport

yes agree fellas.
The Fishs Head is the key for any organisation as we well know, to finally have someone like him was a blessing after the 3 previous regimes, thats ASF, Lowy even though some will say otherwise and APL on the side now.
I said Lowy because he has NOT contributed greatly where the NPL/grass roots is today.
A selfish outlook taking the governace of a entire code but leave beneath to look after itself that in turn grew into more separations State by State.
Anyway its in the boards hands, lord help us.

Its sad he is going.... without doubt IMO the best sports admin Football has ever had in Australia.... arguably one of the best sports admin across all codes in Australia ever... the issues he overcome and were he got FA too will be hard to equal by whoever replaces him...

The issue at hand is to pick his replacement.....

Let’s pray, they get someone of quality and drive....
JJ would be a hard act to follow and I don’t know how good Heather Garriock would be but with a focus very much on women’s football it would be beneficial to have her in a top position. There is so much potential for the women’s game.

While I am all for the women's game growing and thriving, would you sacrifice the precarious position the men's side of the sport is going through right now to shift focus so drastically?

No and that’s why I said that I don’t know how good she would be but FA have ridden on the back of the Matildas popularity to great benefit so, as I said it would be beneficial to ALL of football to have a female in the decision making.

Yeah, this is true.. I hope you are right.. JJ set the ball n motion on the 11 principals and its seemed like, finally after 100 years, we were going somewhere... I just find it all so deflating sometimes...

The only way for football to thrive in this country, is for one body to run the lot. The cancer that i see is, the state federations, who only GAF about themselves, and to fuck what anyone else thinks. For the population Australia has, this is easily done, IMO.

Good luck pulling those piggies away from the trough though mate....

Easier said than done.🥴

I get what you’re saying and JJ has left football in a much better place than it was 5 years ago but , as he said when he arrived ‘football in Australia has many challenges’. He has overcome some of those challenges and, hopefully, whoever takes over will share his vision. 🤞

I think you were referring to the removal of the state federations and that is what is easier said than done.
Ive never been convinced this would be a good idea anyway. More centralization of power could concievably be even less responsive to grass roots

Interesting to note that the crawford report wanted to increase the power of state feds. Whether it was right or wrong is a different matter

I edited my earlier reply typing faster than my head haha re Lowy, the he NOT done anything or cared for the below AL.

Hence the Feds being even more the stumbling block, I agree they need their heads banged big time for they are a hurdle but Sutho thats part what Lowy done forced their hands to look after themselves and rightly so if I was in the same position running FNSW.
JJ would have been cursing behind his breath trying to get them together and work his ways of alignments.
I agree all power to W football, its our huge card against the 2 top codes for they have NO International exposure like the Matildas.
Sure we leverage this BUT if its a focus more than Mens I'll be be very livid with Heather Garriock for she HAS to be for BOTH genders 50/50 in work rate focus and support whilst she is Interim !
Ms Garriock will serve as Interim CEO while the Board conducts a local and global search for a permanent Chief Executive Officer.

Johnson has definitely brought the federations into the decision making and, as you point out, the growth of the game which starts at grassroots level is vital to the future of the game.

this
in turn creates interest in top flight bit by bit once thats finally brought back amongst ALL Clubs.
That was my dream originally what Lowy started but I was misled.

It really dpends on what "power" everyone is meaning.... FA "rules" being geographically administered by state feds is a worthy path to follow purely from a logistical perspective. Where I suggest Sutho is getting frustrated (as are many others) is the lack of a unifying direction from ALL state feds... In my oppinion (and what I interpret that the Crawford report wanted) was the state feds to be "satellite" regional offices of the FA, not their own little "kingdoms"

so I often hear that state feds are acting like mini kingdoms. What are some examples of that?

Prime example is Cavaluuci in QLD shuffling the league structures around like dominos.... Or even the whole push back from certain federations on the NSD and how it would/could link up with existing NPLS....
yeah that certainly was an example I had in mind, but its the only one I've been aware of in 20 years

when I did a write up on financials, the fa spent 1% of their budget on grassroots compares to about 3-5% for state feds (still very poor!) which is why I'm curious
