NPL 2025

Middle Park - not South 'owned', but South 'maintained' I guess - they did build grandstands at the venue themselves.
Were forced to relocate when the owners (Vic Gov) were developing the 'purpose built' section for the Australian Grand Prix. Looks like it was located roughly where the exit of the final corner is (oval is still there.. just no stands)

Mono will have more info, I'm sure.
Middle Park was such a dump, but it was OUR dump ...... cauldron of a place on matchday.... Obvs Im very nostalgic but I can still smell the souvs, cigarette (and flare) smoke, sweat, and beer fumes when I close my eyes ... what a place.

??? what do you mean? South Melbourne United (main club that combined with the Yarra Park and Hellenic in 1959) never owned Middle Park, it was always a council ground... that was ours for peppercorn rent until 1994 when Grand Prix coming to Melbourne and we were given a long lease on Lakeside stadium to remodel as rectangular stadium at favourable rate as "compensation"... BTW it has now been 30 years since Middle park ... holy crap times goes by quickly .. I can still remember the old girl :(...

Long story short is that South Melbourne has NEVER owned a stadium, just like Western United, Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory, these are state owned or council owned facilities.....
Ahh, ok. I just remembered those clubs merged to get South's ground, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean "owned". Damn. Which clubs actually own their ground these days?

Not that many here in Melbourne... its too expensive to buy now and the ones that do suffer because of the vast cost of maintenance.... Veneto club for Bulleen had to go synthetic, and Green Gully and Melbourne Knights spend a fortune each year in upkeep despite alot of the work done by their wonderful, hard working volunteers.... Its easier of the state trust or the council pick up the tab.

Nothing wrong with state owned facilities in my view... we are decades from being a big enough sport to worry about clubs owning infrastructure... gotta walk before we even try and run, let alone lace the boots on for a game :)

Who will be streaming NPLWA nad ACT matches this season? Would be nice if they were bundled in the future and sold.
Haven't heard anything about ACT yet - so I am led to assume that they'll stick to Bar Sports for another season (I believe they've been there for the previous 2 seasons)

yeah there is something in the works that is being talked about

Perth and maybe cockburn city who are now in state league 1 but would get backing

cant really see anyone else over here seeing that it would viable due to traveling a lot more then the east

Thats exciting.... I would LOVE for our western brothers to join the Championship relatively early in some form....

it will still take a lot more financially to really see if it's worth for clubs over here only as when the NSD was announced straight away it was negative as the view was from here that it would crush the glory and they are struggling to get connection with the local league here, and it was the old nsl starting again and to be honest until glory entered the NSL The league wasn't even mentioned over here . as the only other professional team we had was a team called Perth kangaroos who played in the S-League years ago.

yes can understand the difficulties over there.
Always the constant challenge being so far far away as Shreck said :)
Thats in everything but for less flying time towards EU/ME and Asia.

Having played for Italia as both a junior and senior this would be cool, however I think it would be better of having a WA team starting of from scratch in the championship. Much better chance to attract sponsors and fans.

yeah that would be a great idea and I believe it would get a lot of support to be honest and would work financially quite easy for us

Oh I dont have a particular preference for club over there, would just really like for any club joining to be a .... club first and investment second.
