Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The fish and chip shop has fallen to pieces everyone’s going up the road to the new joint on Atkinson across Princess Highway. Place is pumping. The blokes who runs it is a huge South supporter and well known in the football scene. The Greeks are dying out anyways. I give it three years before a kinesiko or halal food store opens up. Caffe Greco is doing its balls in after how much they spent to get it up and running, and given most people haven’t been impressed with prices they won’t last.

Oakleigh will die like Lonsdale Street and lose its charm. After all how long can people keep paying $7.50 for Freddo Espressos, heck Freddocinos are now $9 at Nikos.

—

Record low jersey night I heard. Another embarrassing derby result. How South have let Oakleigh become what they are is an indictment to their mismanagement. Aki works his ass off running up and down Oakleigh for sponsors. Our board scratch their balls and do nothing. Go figure. Bill Papa must be happy with Heidelberg after all his sabotage job at South has been stellar
Is that the old Nick and Helens Chicken bar on Warrigul road just near the pedestrian bridge?

had a souv from there a few months ago, not bad....

Its a private boys club at South now, did anyone know about the jersey night before they saw it on facebook?

The fact we havent had the AGM yet is staggering.

I think most ppl have allowed the last few weeks to slide, but the boards indifference towards the supporters and failure to beat Port Melbourne on Sunday and it may reach a tipping point between the fans and the big wigs up in the balcony.

Does Siki even survive if we lose to Port? What a mess.

Also hearing word that if Fornaroli does choose to continue his career in the npl, he will likely choose Oakleigh over us, especially as his son is in the juniors there. Other possible free agent signings are also said to have fallen through.

Pray for Bonadas hammies, groin etc because thats our last shot at survival.
Lose to Port and its curtains for a few people on Sunday......

I wouldn't get my hopes up, i highly doubt a player like fornaroli would come to little league teams like ours. If he doesn't continue at victory, he'd probably either retire or try his luck overseas, but I'd definitely love to see him in the npl.
He's 37 though and if his kid is already at Oakleigh why wouldn't he come down for for 1 last kick?

Jamie Young & plenty of others are doing it

Nah Sea Bites on Atkinson Street next to the cheap smoke shop.

No it won’t be. The board will continue to sink the ship lower and lower. We’re lucky Port Melbourne are the biggest joke in the league, and there’s 2-3 clubs in worse shape because we would be firming for relegation.

This board won’t do a thing. Maybe they’ll find a way for another one of their sons to get a game at senior level. When 18 coaches reject your job offer, including coaches in state league one such as Fausto and you’re forced to go back and get Siniza - who hadn’t picked a job since he left South and who half the board didn’t even rate as a technical director, you know you’re completely in the dumps.

It’s only a matter of time before Bonada, Marshall, Jankovic and Lopez get dangled with better offers elsewhere. Why would they stay at a club who is directionless, rudderless and run by a cabal of lawyers, financial advisories and malakas who massage their ego by putting their sons and relatives into the seniors and proclaiming they are developing future stars

For everyone sake i hope theses free agent signings don’t fall through knowing us we probably don’t want to pay massive wages we desperately need signings so pay no questions asked

Any new rumours of who theses signings are
Both already "popped" there is nobody else on the horizon Im afraid....

Im not sure who these 2-3 worse clubs are, we are the only team without a win since February lol.

If you take out the first 3 rounds we are the worst team in the comp by a long long way.
You mean the 1 nil limp noodle over a 10 man Port and the jammy win against the tide of the game against the Knights? Or maybe the Hail Mary, 7 foot tall nobody goal to save us from blushes against the Victory youth??? its ALL been garbage, no two ways about it.... From 1st by 6 points, unlucky finalists, Australia Cup semi, to community shield winners to ............. worst season ever perhaps?

Forward that played for wsw/sydney olympic and a sydney fc player.

As i said, pray for Bonada, nobody is saving the day.
Im just scared they will "force" him back too soon and then cooked for the rest of the year....... I have given up, resigned to watching us be relegated with weeks to spare...... Coach and board will be gone by September at this rate. Not saying I want this to happen but it will reach a point where enough is enough.....

The coach is a caretaker and will be gone regardless. Honestly he probably packs his bags if we lose this Sunday.

I've always maintained that if we got someone like Katsakis in (who did want the job) we would have survived easily. When you have 4 coaches on the bench with no experience coaching a seniors mens side, you're probably done before you start.

Good luck comvincing JA to come and coach vpl1 next year. We are going to go the same way Preston did if we go down, the only difference is the precarious position the clubs in with the trust, they'd be dying to kick us out of Lakeside.

Leo's team ensured the lease is ironclad I have been told, I guess the proof was in the pudding when the clowns from the Tarneit Gypsies came sniffing around a couple of years ago playing silly buggers. At this stage (and yes I know its sheer desperation and despair talking from my end) I wouldnt be too fussed if we were kicked out of Lakeside... Its far too big for who we are now and we will never get 10-15k crowds agin the way we are going... We need something like Port Melbournes ground and a sympathetic council to build us a 2-3k stand on either side.

I know you are bullish on Katsakis but I dont see him having the clout with either the players OR the board to be able to do anything to stop this year's rot... Just gutted for where we are now... Was hoping for Tolios or Loza but we got Porky Blinders instead... :( I still cling to the theory that Esteban was screwed over for the Saints match and forced to field that weakened squad that killed our whole season.... He is a pragmatic, boring, defensive coach at times and would have rallied the team to avoid the drop. Yes yes I know, after all those losses he had lost the dressing room and HAD to go ... I just am still not convinced it was ONLY his fault. :( so sad....

I agree with you, the grounds too big for the crowd numbers the npl teams pull these days, but id wait and see what happens with this new league before leaving to a smaller ground. Maybe it'll spark interest and almost rival a league numbers 🤷

just hypotheticals mate, nobody is leaving .... for now.. Maybe in the best tradition of ancient Greek Aeschylean tragedy, we will end up playing at Ironcrap field when that soon becomes vacant ... West Melbourne Hellas will certainly piss off the Oakleigh snobs... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Notice how they host a jersey night now, in the middle of the season unlike most clubs who do it within the first 3 rounds.

What’s going on. I heard they did terribly and raised SFA, the number was the lowest it’s been in 10 years. Jersey nights used to be a massive thing for the club, now we’re raising less then Bayside Argonauts and the Croatian Dandenongs and so on at jumper nights.

I’m waiting for the AGM, but heck at this point we need an EGM.

Only one of the junior NPL teams made it into Division 1. For us - South Melbourne, that is catastrophic.

The whole clubs in trouble. This lot are self serving and have always done their AGMs late in the season so that they can fudge the figures and make it look like everything is good and ok.

Peter Kokotis has zero coaching experience yet - his never coached in any capacity even in juniors yet is the football director. If you’ve ever talked to him, the blokes got NFI, sounds like a dodgy salesman and has always drifted in and out of South. His stealing a living from South and pockets more then Siniza and Esteban were and are on.

Strati Xynas came back to South to do schools programs and community stuff with us yet his still the technical director at Malvern. Blatant conflict of interest there.

The presidents daughter working as a business development manager and his nephew working as assistant coach - with no experience. The rot festers so deep within the club it’s not funny.

This club has become an amalgamation of suits on the board who control a sinking ship that they rammed into an iceberg. All of them are suits, all of them treat South like one big Kafenio with their feet kicked back in the corporate suite at Lakeside drinking premium scotch that the members pay for. Jobs for the family, games for their sons/relatives, a big FU to the members and families who pay big money for memberships and NPL junior fees

We are fucked
