Hi all!

So our generous benefactor Pasquali has dropped out, so we need to do a financial plan and so we can chat the budget here.

So to do 2 episodes a month we need 140 AUD and 210 for 3 episodes a month. It is hard to do 3 episodes without diluting the quality, but if there is demand we can certainly have some episodes with a more chatty vibe like roundball do. I can probably cover around 40, leaving 100 left if we do 2 episodes or 170 if we do 3. I am looking for feedback and expressions of interest to try and figure out a budget. From may next year I can up my contribution

I am thinking of 3 patreon levels. Feel free to suggest different prices

1) $5 a month access to bonus content - we try and make 20 minutes of bonus content with each episode
2) $10 a month where you get to ask a question/make a statement of our hosts or guests. Questions of course moderated for personal attacks, bigotry etc (basically same rules as the forum. You can't have me read out a statement saying the guest or someone on the forum is a wanker or say something racist)
3) $15 a month for those just feeling generous

On top of that, if anyone has a business we can advertise it for $10 a month in sponsorship (up to 3 businesses). Given a business sponsorship probably needs to know the numbers, I should probably give a rough appraisal of where we are currently and where we could be realistically. At the moment across different platforms a typical episode is probably a bit under 150ish combined after a month (we don't have data for a year, for obvious reasons) with top episodes getting 250ish. We have round ball's video from when they started 12 months ago, it is hard to compare. Our youtube views are roughly 1/4-1/3rd of total our listeners with the sole exception of the episode where we recorded video, in which case the youtube version is 2/3rds our total audience. All that is to say that roundball started off a fair bit worse than us, but 12 months later, their episodes are getting 300-3k https://www.youtube.com/@RoundBallAus/videos. Since they are a video channel I would guess that their total reach across platforms are 500-5k per episode. So 12 months of consistency and numbers like that are probably realistic for us.

If these numbers are too low or too high, or if you have different ideas for patreon levels let us know below and also let us know if you would be interested in joining patreon, sponsorship so we can budget

Can I ask a silly question. Why is it costing so much to produce? I remember doing one a while ago and we did it for free with volunteers. Are you needing to pay someone to record, edit, upload etc.?

we use an audio engineer from bulgaria. We could of course cut the costs if someone is willing to do it for free/cheeper (bulgaria is about as cheep as we can go!)

It takes hours to edit. So either you got to be extremely passionate or you don’t value your time. Alternatively you can pay someone to do it

Yeah true. They're long podcasts. You need to be dedicated to edit them and its a better product done by a pro.

I think they are too long at this infant stage of the forum fellas imo.
30mins max the way I see it.
Is there a set cost to produce no matter the time ?
I imagine the less would be cheaper.

Graz those suggested costs look fair to me but the return most likely vary from month to month.
Maybe a annual membership fee ? and for non members ?
Just talking out loud and template
1. $5 x 12 $60
2. $10 x 12 $120
3. Non members add on $20 each to the above.

Now that maybe a bit high at this stage probably is.
Maybe a early member join fee bonus discount half the amounts above ?

I don't think I have much to add on the subscriber setup, but I do agree that maybe it could be a bit shorter in length.

I love listening. Think they've been great with lots of great discussion and guests. I just think the frequency is possibly unsustainable.

I think you've done 8 pods in 11 weeks since the first one...that's a pod released each week 72% of the time across those 11 weeks...which at that rate would equate to 37 pods in a year.

At $60USD per pod maybe one every 2-4 weeks is a better fit for now, until engagement increases. Who knows why not some form of sponsorship? Club sponsorship even with ads made by clubs to drive membership in a pay per episode model?!?

Who knows...just my thoughts.

Yes agree above as mentioned.
Bit too long even though we appreciate all your efforts fellas but obviously there is time restraints as mentioned by Pascuali and costs.
That frequency is quite high for a low forum subscribership and funds as we’ve discussed.
Mention of sponsers.
Thinking out loud talking to more local grass roots level.
Approaching a local known club for a 30mins interview on its history and legend to current players - like Preston was done therefore ask would they be happy to contribute for the publicity - it’s cheap from a clubs treasurer’s perspective and marketing dept.
Interview a top player and their beginnings - how hard they found it - challenges - coaching outlook from a player pov - highs lows.

yeah half an hour once a month I could pretty much pay for myself. Patreon and perhaps small business sponsorship could then help that grow to a couple a month and perhaps longer episodes. If you have special guests it is hard to keep too short
There are quite a few really interesting guests I have lined up pencilled in

One possibility is to keep it an hour long and split it into 2 pods. Same price but higher frequency
