Summer of Cricket thread

oof close match but I think Australia have just done enough to at least prevent an indian win. Try to survive the first 2 overs tomorrow then take a slog, for 20 runs if we are good enough

batters don't seem to pick up his changes in line. Apparently his release point is 20cm ahead of most bowlers which is probably off putting. His stock ball is slightly wider than most bowlers but then he aims for the top of leg stump as his change up and batters don't pick the change of line for some reason

india earnt that collapse with good containment bowling, we wanted to up the anti and couldn't and lost wickets. Also need Green over marsh. But it looks like a decent batting wicket if you can get a 50 run 10th wicket partnership

I was thinking that too. That the batting can't be too difficult ATM with the 50 run last wicket partnership.

We probably try and bat 4 to 5 overs tomorrow if we are good enough. That's probably enough to make the win a bit tricky in terms of run rate, around 4rpo on a 5th day wicket. But with rohit, pant and ready we can't take anything for granted
 
A mate of mine off forum, J, who others here have met in person, and who has played for the state and is a wristy, sent a few thoughts this morning.

J thought that incredible bowling took place from Bumrah and Siraj.

333 makes it an interesting third day. Thinks still not enough to hold India out with many all rounders in their line up.

Extra night's rest will help Starc in final bowl.

I've looked up a quite a few averages in the last few days.

Marsh averaged 50 in 2022.
45 in 2023
12 in 2024.

Just can't believe they've kept selecting him, this season? He can't bowl sustained spells either?

Looked up:

Labu - 33, 28 and 27 for the last three years. This is simply atrocious for a specialist batter. He would have been dropped in any other era.

Ditto Usman - 68, 53, 25. Seasons 2023 and 2024 were good, but apparently Usman has only reached 50 once in his last 18 innings. At age 38, I'm not sure he can come back? Plus he is the worst fielder in the team.

McDonald as coach, and Bailey as head selector, have basically told players to put their feet up as soon as selected, and rest from playing any red ball cricket in the Shield!

Before this Test in Melbourne, Head had scored as many runs in the Indian series as the other top five batters (Usman, McSweeney, Smith, Labu and Marsh) put together - 410 runs. It is putting a lot of pressure on the bowlers to dig them out of holes all the time.

India need 333 to win. If we had Hazlewood and not a cooked/sore Starc and an ineffective Marsh, I'd back us. But we have been dealt a poor deck. If they win this the series is gone, even if we win the last. The poor Brisbane weather may come back to haunt us as we were clearly the better side at the Gabba.

Yeh. But did you see the seam movement from the Indian bowlers. The Kooka was talking, unlike for us with the second new ball the previous afternoon. .

Only just turned that. He has been excelling in all levels of rep cricket since he was 10. Has already played for Australia before this too, in last years Junior Ashes here and in England.
 
Wicketless after 14 new ball overs. Some swing from Starc and seam from the others but no edges. Not good as this ball softens and loses life at about 30 overs. So need to strike soon.

Cummins now has 2 wickets. Just heard on the radio as I was driving back from the beach.

Any info on how they occurred much appreciated, Baggers.
