60 off more for Saffers to win with 8 wickets in hand looks easy.

Amazing how the pitch flattened out yesterday with clear skies?

The sun dried out any remaining surface moisture I expect Jon. There were clear warning signs with the ease at which Starc and Hazlewood batted, so Cummins shudda removed Starc after his bad first over and joined the always accurate J H. That flyer that Starc gave them is the catalyst for their present strong position imho.

Was there a touch of complacency once we took a handy lead into our second innings. WE bombed out if the case as there was still plenty in the deck yet a couple of guys perished to rash shots.

WE will soon see if the Saffer 'choker' tag will remain or be gone forever if they fail to complete the 60 odd runs for victory. I expect them to wrap up the mace but not before we give em a scare or two. Not much is being said about Lyons failure too yesterday. Sometimes he comes across as bullet proof by the media.

Well deserved world champs Saffers. They had the best of the conditions on day three and made the most of it. We need to now face the fact that CRACKS ARE NOW APPEARING IN OUR MUCH VAUNTED ATTACK, that even 12 mths ago would have found a way to win this final even on a featherbed. Lyon wicketless for the match is yelling out that his time has been and gone. Selectors need to give his successor some Test game time in the Windies.

Yes fair to say the 'choker' tag has been removed forever and that this young and talented Saffer team will now thrive unaffected by any mental factors. Guys like heroes Markram, Rabada and Bedingham still have a few years left to mentor the youngsters such as Jansen and Stubbs and any newcomers. As for their next gens they are being nurtured by playing Youth Tests against India, England and prob us next. Who said Test cricket is no longer relevant in this day of T20, as these Youth Tests will help perpetuate the pure game over the next decades.

Why TF were Bailey and McD experimenting with Cameron Green at #3 in a prestigious World Test Champ final. Hello you drongos to my knowledge Green has NEVER batted at First Drop in first class cricket and with Usman going cheaply in both inns the big man was virtually opening and again he has NEVER opened either. His squillions of first class runs have come from batting mostly #5 or #6. HE IS A LOWER MIDDLE ORDER BAT!!! Smith sh've been at #3.

Watch replay mate, he misjudged it at first then had to adjust. A good grasp having to dive his full length.
He didn't pick it up in the stands/crowd/etc and adjusted to dive forward late to take what is a very difficult and therefore pretty fairly a 'great' catch all things considered.

As much as it sucks to lose, I don't think this loss will be a bad thing in the long run as this one off game was always going to be decided by the batting and our batters simply didn't stand up. The team with the lone centurion won the contest and it proved to be a very good toss to win and the right call to bowl first.

I agree with the comments about needing to start thinking more about Lyon's successor AND that opening with Marnus and the flow on effect it had in a big game to be completely idiotic in a winner takes all final! Konstas should have played for Marnus with Smith moving up to 3 and Green at 4. Green will never be a first drop bat and there's nothing wrong with that - middle order is his jam.

I hope Marnus gets benched for the first test against Windies although now with Smith likely out they'll prob have an excuse to keep him. I'd rather Inglis as he hasn't looked like making runs for years. Sorry but you used all your luck up Marn.

AS I said. A no brainer with Smith#3. Did Bailey and McDonald forget that was where Smith kept Australian cricket strong between 2014-'18, digging us out of hole after hole. Then after his suspension, he almost single handedly won us the '19 Ashes. The guy is a batting freak.

Down the track possibly. He has the technique, temperament tho is a work in progress.
now with Smith likely out

Hearing he will have his pinkie strapped and should be able to manage to hold the bat, albeit with some pain.

Saffers hit the ground running. Cummins would've made the wrong call as he was gonna bat.

For me he doesn't have a game for all conditions currently and would need to own his temperament to be able to bat at 3 at test level.

I would love to see him try to be a player that imposes himself more on the contest and the opposition. Far too timid for someone so talented and often you can see him overthinking things in the middle and that isn't good. Maybe he should bunk in with Sammy K and have a little bit of that swashbuckling bravado rub off on him haha

Mr Green has been a nervous starter and it shows which is a red rag to a bull for a bowler, but there was a clear change in his intent in County cricket as he did impose himself on the opening bowlers. This obviously gave him confidence as he proceeded to peel off three centuries in his five match stint. I was surprised and very pleased by this new approach.

Australia Test squad: Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster

Aussie X1 (bold) And selectors bat Cameron Green #4. Some talk Head may open.

Not sure?

Thought Saffers copped a good pitch on third day.
