The Ange at Tottenham Thread

Awwww it’s always a downer by this bloke.
Give it a break said before we know where they are on the ladder but on top in the Div 2 euro comp not bad com si com sa.

To the fellow members this was quoted in another article today :

“In terms of Australian coaches, I think it’s the greatest achievement by an Australian coach of all time. By far,”

So where does this knock out euro comp stand in achievement to GA’s fluke in Qatar ?

Edit adding more from another commentator :

Australian football commentator Andy Harper shared similar sentiments to Postecoglou about this being a remarkable journey of belief in a radio interview with Melbourne-based station RSN. _ _

“Some people have struggled to understand philosophically what the guy is about, and what he is trying to do,” Harper said.

“In the end, he’s prevailed because the guy’s a genius.

“He’s had to do it the hard way in life.

“In football, the world game, to achieve something globally, you’re starting from so far behind, it almost defies description.

“And he’s done it again.

“He’s shut a lot of people up.

“Every time he takes a new job he has to shut a lot of people up, but he’s prepared to do it because he’s on a journey of incredible self-discovery and achievement.

“Putting us on the map as he’s doing it, and our football culture, which is very alive and very rich, and very deep, even if Australians don’t celebrate it as much they should.

It's amazing him that achievement today depended - amongst many other things - on an athletic mid-air save on the goal line by Van de Ven. Not saying that as a criticism - it's the reality of sport - but the chance of Ange not winning in this second season depended on so many fine margins that could have gone either way.
Yes it's a game of fine margins at both ends of the pitch. It's interesting how nearly conceding often gets framed as a losing point whereas nearly scoring gets brushed off as not being a chance of nearly winning.

proven wrong? where?

yesterday Spurs were 17th, today they're still 17th
There are plenty examples of teams doing well in one competition over another. Fact is, Spurs have a trophy this season and rightly plotted their path to victory. There's a lot to learn from the league season and there can't e anything more motivating than rectifying that went wrong. That's the next project.

Today they're Europa league champions, today they've qualified for the champions league. Today they've ultimately had a more succesful season compared to last season.

I said Ange would be judged on this result, do or die, win you're king, lose you've failed. Ange now has a ridiculous record in finals, its happened too often for it to be a fluke. Hes a winner. Essentially sacrificed the last 4 months for this tournamemt and was vindicated.

Spurs winning this Europa league is like travelling to Thailand to lose your virginity to a ladyboy then coming back to Australia and telling all your mates you're a hit with the ladies. 🤭

There's an awesome video on the South Melbourne facebook page that I can't share because of copyright that's well worth a watch for anyone inclined to track it down.

Now you're just getting personal

I would like to personally congratulate the Greek community of Melbourne for winning this low hanging fruit of a soft trophy (37th in Europe, yay!) and finishing 17th in the Premier League in Spurs worst ever season. Ange couldn't have done it without you.

However to all the anglos basking in pride, you are the reason he left Australia and why he has a chip on his shoulder. He didn't do this for you, he did this in spite of you.
wow your childhood must have been rough..

Saw this post:

Not sure about greatest coaching achievement in Australian sport…

Ken Kearny
John Buchanan
Wayne Bennett
Craig Bellamy
Ivan Cleary
Don Talbot
Bob Simpson
Jack Gibson
Harry Hopman

Jesus fucking christ. Excellent coaches but mostly in bubble monopolies. I don't know their names but in regards to world top standards, the swimming coaches have certainly done a job.

JS - yes let’s leave the Local Bubble codes out - some great coach’s but hardly any international challenges.
Swim/tennis coach’s sure I’d put in with OS football challenges maybe golf ?
