The Australian Championship Thread

Not a chance of reserves or youth teams in the Championship. The clubs themselves made that clear I thought. It would be state level for South's reserves, like the A-League clubs. As their first team would be in OFC and NST, their reserves might have to re-enter from lower in the pyramid, I would guess. Practically running 12 months of the year, must be worth it financially.
Just like A league teams we will have a u23 team playing in the vpl / npl

Not sure football Australia are happy with us so there must be a plan maybe two separate squads
Where there's a will there's a way thats for sure! If it came down to it, South would sacrifice NPL Vic (just as South of the Yarra hinted) its the most logical and probable route for us if they dont let us field a reserve side that is.

The 2 comps only becomes a problem if the AU Championship goes to home and away season long.. then the club weighs it up economically and makes its decisions accordingly, Simple as that!

At the end of the day, just as no one in the last 20 years has looked out for our interests (FA, aleague, you name it), SMFC are not here to look out for theirs, ONLY our own long term interests and goals matter! If they want full commitment we want a date for pro rel to the top tier. If that comes happy to forgo all the rest and be patient.. I dont see that guarantee anywhere, does anyone else?

We are a club whose destiny it always was to be at the summit of football in this country!!! That remains the fabric of our DNA.

Would they be able to compete in AFC comps, AL and Championship or would they then be considered an Oceania club?
not entirely sure .. would be a great scenario if we win the Australia Cup and gain entrry into both Asian and Ocianai Champions league in teh same season ..... and still NOT be in the Aleague :P

OK, Ill go back to bed now .....

Is this just a play to try get some attention from the FFA?

Ie, October start - get it running…
I reckon it might be mate... still, a small CL style 17 round tourney at the start of the season wouldn't tax the club too much and could be a great money spinner... Im all for it as long as we dont lose focus on the real league.

Surely we aren't THAT big of a club in Australia? ... at least that's what the new dawners have been telling us for two decades now ....
Definitely the club giving the most drive towards an nst and a team thatcould make the competition financially viable and attractive to. Probably the a league promotes them and Preston after a few seasons. But having them let's the nst start with a bigger bang

Playing devil's advocate here but why is it on our shoulders to help the very organisation that has tried to eradicate us and kept us locked out of football for more than 2 decades?

The organisation that promised us a full home and away national league two seasons ago and now is treading water trying to get this over the line?

Why no comment about Marconi or even Auckland FC wanting to join this competition?

Don't get me wrong, I am all in for the Championship and see this OFC malarky as more of a publicity/money making stunt but I can still laugh at the irony of South Melbourne (the poster evil effnik club) being chastised for having any sort of sporting ambition.

I’m not Vince. What has he actually done to SMH/NPL fans? He didn’t support SMH joining the A-League? But SMH don’t want to join the A-League? Oh wait……….
You're really gonna have to try a little harder Flogari .... Aren't you pretending to be a ghost writer these days?

Oh its not definitely not souths responsibility, but I'd still worry about the nst and whether we can make the necessary step towards a pyramid.

I'm greatful for the advocacy south melbourne have made and worry that the drive towards an nst deflates if they are in the ofc. But that's Australia's problem and I wouldn't blame south

I don't think marconi leaving the nst would have the same impact
