The Australian Championship Thread

The conspiracist in me says .......& just like that, "they" can collapse the whole project without needing to do anything more than just leaving the idea as a champions league format for "the near future" with as many white walled promises as they can mustre, till any funding to keep it alive goes to the APL and its cronies..

Tis going to be worrying times re championship as far as I’m concerned.
Our history and current situation just looks shaky now that the rudder has cut adrift.
Huge fingers crossed 🤞 whoever takes the reins has the balls and know how to keep going ahead !
the old guard had to wait 32 years to make the world cup with lots of heart breaking near misses

perhaps there will be 32 years of waiting before they are finally no longer blocked from the national stage again and this is another iran 97, where it feels right on the verge only to be cruelly snatched away at the last minute

on the plus side there will be some nice documentaries when it finally happens

I think we are back to "IF" it happens not "When"....

I’m not sure but the 8 clubs were having meetings last year and JJ wasn’t always there the Sydney guys on here will probably know more
I think he was away in Asia for meetings a few times. Might have been that same time?

How do we beat JJ? Someone who's worked at FIFA. Has close ties in Asia. Finance and law qualifications. And played locally. Who else is there?

I'm seeing James Kitching thrown around. What do we know about him? He seems to have the FIFA and AFC background...

Brendan Schwab mentioned as well. Quite a history with our game. Here are his thoughts from 15 years ago about FFA:

Not a BAD option.

Its statements like these which are pretty much "read into it as you will" that will be the problem with most candidates and all, us on the sidelines...

Most having a longer history with the game in this country, we cant be blamed for our pessimism, only difference is this can have the potential of an even bigger divide, if it fails again bc it will turn to pure anger and dismay, but this time it will be for the last time, and I dont see the game recovering from losing the old guard for good.. I for one dont follow the aleague now or ever did, but even i will stuggle to mustre the will to even follow NPL after a possible colapse of this.

On a sidenote mind you, for me any well worded catch power phrase type promises that are made, arent enough to convince me, unless there is an actual stipend for h&a timeline in the near future, this is the only perspective candidates platform i can see as reliable.

It's business speak, pure and simple.

20 mins of JJ, Anter and Heather blowing smoke up each others arse... NOT ONE SINGLE mention of the Australian Championship... its over boys and girls... over before it even began... 🤮 🤮 🤮

Hope you all like women's football, all I heard was Matildas this and Matilda's that.

I have nothing against someone becoming a CEO bringing alot of external and proven experience And might I add be it either gender.
Its a position to me you bring a proven resume - ok she's "iterim" ?? lets see what prevails but I have real concerns till proven otherwise.

She quotes :
“My focus will be on strong, collaborative and inclusive leadership as we work to deliver on key priorities — from Socceroos World Cup qualification and the appointment of a new Matildas coach, to the delivery of major tournaments and the continued development of our digital platform, PlayFootball.”

she moved into sports administration and spent time as the chief executive of Australian Taekwondo
Lord help us.
