Unite Round

In Australia, all four codes are called “ football/ footy “ ( A rules, both rugby games and our game )

Yeah but if you were to talk to someone in Australia and you wanted no confusion you'd say;

For Football/Soccer - soccer or football,
For Australian Rules - AFL or footy
For Rugby League - league or NRL
For Rugby Union - Union or Rugby Union or possibly ruggers..

Two entirely different crowds, and never the twain shall meet. Similar to here prior to the 90's. Now they even steal each other's players and give them Test Jumpers. Back in the day there was the odd one, a good example being Ray Price who played for the Parramatta rah rahs before switching to League for the Eels, and playing for Aust at both codes.

I'm not talking about that though. I was asking what they call the different games. Talking to a mate and he said in England it's the same as here. 'Rugby' for Rugby Union and 'league' for Rugby League.

I thought ruggers was slang for rugby shorts, or is that just in Queensland?

Everyone says " Did you watch the footy/ football on said day " . Victorian's will not say, ' Did you go to the AFL, yesterday "

In Victoria.

I've lived in Queensland, NSW and the NT and what I wrote is pretty standard across the board.

I even said above that Australian rules is referred to as 'footy'. Everywhere else calls it AFL.

In Sydney they do, because in Sydney Footy/Football already taken.

You even see the signs up at season beginning, come play AFL.

Not entirely true. People are more likely to say "Footy," but more and more people (i feel) are saying AFL. I would 100% say "Did you go to the AFL yesterday," but that's me.

- To me it's football. I never use the word "Sokkah." To my mates who are AFL heads, I would still say Football or "The World Game."
- Yep, its AFL for Footy.
- I only ever say NRL. I never use any other form of terminology for that sport.
- It's rare that this sport comes up as a subject in my circle, but if it does, I simply use the term "Rugby." If I get a quizzical look, then I would add "Union" to it. Some Victorians still call NRL "Rugby" as many of the uneducated down here believe they are the same sport.

Was and always will be Soccer when I'm talking to Aleague supporters... to everyone else (especially AFL heads) its football.

Where do you live though?

The unite rounds exists because Destination NSW paid for that grand final at Sydney all the time concept & the APL that scrapped it had to do something with the money. When the 3 years that they paid for are over the "unite" round will disappear into the ether.
