But let me tell you a story. I've played football my entire life and I've tried my guts out every game. Recently, in the Central Coast O45s, my aging team were thrashed 15 - 0. I wasn't that fussed about the score - we played 45 yos and were mostly in our 60s. I was more embarrassed for the other team who could have derived no pleasure from that win.

I never stopped running (at CDM) and had several members of my team thank me for my unrelenting effort. I was conscious of erratic heartbeat for the next two nights.

Thing is, though I absolutely tried my guts out - and it nearly killed me - I simply wasn't up to the standard required.

Neither is Duke. He gives it everything but he just doesn't have what is required anymore to close down defenders in Asia, at his age.

It's over Mitch, and no amount of effort can change that.

You need to direct that to Popa, because Duke fits perfectly into his system. Nothing will change until he does away with playing 2 CDM's

Id say he may be limited but he is the best we have

But toure has really caught my eye and might have eeked ahead of duke

Weird that no journalists asked about toure

Iredale is improving too

Podcasts who I thought were informed overlooking Toure and Iredale. We've had this discussion that people don't know they exist but it's surprising from these parts who seem really on top of it. I'll put it down to time zones and it's hard to follow or find the time to delve into what those two have achieved in Denmark.

Whenever I visit Australia I realise how tricky it can be to follow stuff even with thorough reading and watching from the night before.
 
I anticipate an early dog fight. I'd rather go hard and try to get an early goal. The home game saw us dominate possession. They may try this tactic again. We've got to get shooting.

Yeah if it wasn't for this forum I'd have no idea what Toure and Iredale were up to. The media don't seem to cover players in Denmark as much as other leagues. If Toure had scored his recent goals in the A-league or England then there would have been much more talk about him.

Mr C, I enjoy your storey and I can relate similar age and still playing myself and have experienced similar to a degree.

Though even though I get where your coming from I'll give Duke is around fellow and opposing players he can still contest with he main issue is getting in position enough and lack of pulling the trigger like a true skriker.
He doesn't have the mind set and zest to beat a player keep his head down and put his boot through the ball in thunder on regular occasions let alone 5+ times in a game.
Someone mentioned in his youth he played in the defense maybe ?? I don't know but when I think about it he could be better in mids ??
Anyway that won't change.
 
I just watched the mini match of third sting Spain beating second string Switzerland. Oh man our national team looks shabby by comparison.
 
Both other group games in just over 30min. I'll be in class for these but will keep an eye out. We'll know a lot more come our game.
