World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Wow 2:0. Nice worked goal. Whole different game it appears with Saudi being higher up and probably more assured they'd win but it's not going that way. The risk of Indonesia being near to us is still less risky than Saudi breathing down our necks I feel.

our defence is so much better than anyone else in asia

problem is, our attack is one of the weakest

to think if we took one of our chances on thursday we would have a chance to go 6 points ahead in our group....in any case, big chance tonight

So.. here’s the thing - I can understand the yellow card. There’s one thing here I’ve noticed: this is a procedural error (if I’m watching/listening to the clip correctly).

The referee has given a corner, and despite the possible check for a red card, he’s given a yellow. Laws of the game on this say that VAR is only to be used for:
a. Goal/no goal
b. Penalty/no penalty
c. Direct red card
(not second yellow card/caution)
d. Mistaken identity (when the referee cautions or sends off the wrong player of the offending team)

And also that; “The referee must always make a decision, i.e. the referee is not permitted to give ‘no decision’ and then use the VAR to make the decision; a decision to allow play to continue after an alleged offence can be reviewed.”

So while yes, there was a check for a “Possible Red Card”, given this was not the outcome, it should have been no card and a corner.

The way we set-up doesn't help us. Our selection doesn't help us. The balance is out and doesn't give us a chance offensively.

We could play a front four with Goodwin (LF) Toure/Yengi (CF) Irankunda (RF) McGree (CAM) and a more technically minded CM to pair with a CDM but choose not to. That would be much more dangerous and strike a better balance.

Hubner sent off for a 2nd yellow so thats a big mistake.

Nice to see Hubner suspended for our game. Lots of yellows. Any other suspensions?

Was going to say no VAR for the second yellow, but I understand what you mean, considering this yellow should have been his first.

Have rewinded to see that second yellow and got in mid-fracas, so will watch the end of this match now

Saudi next window is China at home then Japan away but Japan should be secured by then.

This ending is chaos. Indo have lost structure and Saudi peppering them but cant finish.
