World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

There's also a thought that Irankunda, Goodwin, Botic and Drews non-selection for the U23's may point to their selection. I think thats probably true for Irankunda and will wait and see for the others. The flip side is Segecic and Toure got selected for the U23s so won't be selected for seniors. With all of that you start getting an incomplete picture of the squad.

The players have been informed if they're in the squad. I guess one benefit of a late announcement is to slow opponents analysis but it's obvious who'll be playing.

Looking at Indonesia squad we are def screwed now!, no way can we compete with them. Best bet would be to park the bus and hope for a counter attack. We will be so lucky to get anything out of this match.

Nice attempt at a troll NoMates. Their forward line looks average (Struik isn’t even getting minutes off the bench for Brisbane Roar, and neither are those players that play for Oxford, the other forwards play for domestic teams). They look very strong in defense with Paes in goals and their back line that are getting regular minutes though. They’ve named 13 defenders, 6 midfielders, and 6 forwards so that may be an indication that they are going to park the bus?

Given 5-6 Indo players ply their trade in the Dutch Eredivisie, the 6th ranked league in UEFA, and even reached 5 for a while, Indo have a very strong squad.

There are usually 3 tiers of the Eredivisie.

Top - Feyenoorde, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. ( These teams are probably better than most lower and mid ranked teams in the Big Five).

Just below are usually AZ Alkmaar and FC Twente.

Mid - there is a bit of a drop to some mid- ranked teams , who rarely win anything, or who rep Netherlands in the Champ League or Europa League, but stay up in the Eredivisie season after season.

:Lower - these teams struggle to stay up and drop to the semi-pro Eerste. These teams are much weaker.

I heard Indo have a Serie A player too.

This is seriously tough opposition. All the Dutch based players will have had really good technical and tactical coaching, throughout their careers.

One problem is that many Indonesian players, recently recruited, have had little international experience, particularly in Asian conditions in the heat and humidity, and, are relatively inexperienced in international football clutch matches.

How many are actually starters for their clubs?

I feel like No Mates.

I think Indo look formidable. They were good enough in games I've watched them against Saudi and us. I think they are adding newer quality recruits all the time too.

I'm really nervous about playing them. Many of them will have had a long trip to arrive in Aus from Europe, and hopefully won't be used to it.

We come up against much more formidable lists of clubs but there's no denying Indonesia have a good football education at the back. It'll be tough. Just hope they struggle with a new coach.

It's interesting to note how many chances occur in Indonesia matches at both ends of the pitch. We'll have ours. We should give them any but they've got their ways of getting in there. Alas, a lot of their balls into our box are cleared or off target. Hope for more of that.

Without looking up Kluivert's CV in coaching, I'm not sure how experienced he is? I feel like I've watched him at a big tournament as a head or assistant coach.

Kluivert was a great player.

I did stats in the first game against Indo. We dominated territory and in control of the game, but we were profligate around goals.

The dominance wasn't apparent from watching it live. It was pronounced in the replay though.
