World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

I feel like No Mates.

I think Indo look formidable. They were good enough in games I've watched them against Saudi and us. I think they are adding newer quality recruits all the time too.

I'm really nervous about playing them. Many of them will have had a long trip to arrive in Aus from Europe, and hopefully won't be used to it.
You agree our best result if we play our best is a draw and we'll likely get beaten 4-0? Thats what NoMates has posted.

They have 3 players at Twente, PC Zwolle and Utrecht. These are top tier and mid tier - high quality teams.

Not sure if they are starters?

I did stats in the first game against Indo. We dominated territory and in control of the game, but we were profligate around goals.

The dominance wasn't apparent from watching it live. It was pronounced in the replay though.
Interesting, I thought we dominated the first game and was very disappointed that we didn't win. I will watch a replay this week.

haven't had a chance to look. I asked ai hoping it would be accurate but it didn't go down well :D
I just checked out the guys in the Eredivisie and Serie A and they're all starters. That's LB to RB covered.

The others in the Netherlands are at lower levels. It'd be like us selecting Younis and Peupion.

I haven't checked their other lines out but the players are at lower levels and they look weaker.

It makes me think that sitting back isn't a great plan against them because they are a tough defence. We need to crack them. Popovic's game plan doesn't fill me with confidence against them. I hope he adapts.

So 0-0 the most likely score

Looking at Indonesia squad we are def screwed now!, no way can we compete with them. Best bet would be to park the bus and hope for a counter attack. We will be so lucky to get anything out of this match.
many of them are bench warmer. I know Indonesia team well. Many not even playing for their clubs.

This is exciting for the standard of Asian football, but it makes it tougher and tougher for Aus to qualify. However, if we qualify for World Cups and Asian Cups, we will be more battle hardened from games against higher calibre opposition in World and Asian Cup qualifiers. Hence, we will be more competitive.

A decade Football Fed Aus head SAP coach in my home state, Anthony Alexander, also one of a handful of National Curriculum writers, claimed at that time many Asian teams were technically superior to us, but way behind tactically. AA contended if the Asian teams caught up tactically the FFA Tech Dept thought they would blow us away.

Tactically, they have improved. With Indonesia though, with all those top tier Dutch players, they will be superbly schooled in tactics. They also have a Serie A player, who although trained differently from current Dutch and Aussie footballers, will also be very well equipped tactically.

This is the same side that smashed the Saudis 2-0, the same Saudis that out played us at home and we were lucky to get the draw.
So if they can do that to SA, can you imagen what they will do to us. Like i said we draw at best.

.hhhmmm I see the logic... the same Saudis who beat Argentina in a WC therefore Indonesia can beat Argentina anytime?
