World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Then it's definitely not the game you're thinking of. Behich copped hell for those - dreadful defending.
Sainsbury was definitely too casual in the Japan home game. Behich was caught in snow and King started the game. Interesting as King fared alright given how raw he was. Just shows we need to regenerate.

NZ lead on 61. Not watching but that's a bit closer than maybe anticipated.

Behich has 3 assists in 71 caps. It's a terrible return for some who supposedly gets forward. His crosses never his the target let alone get an assist. The moment Bos and Farrell are fit, he has to go.
IIRC when Bos was fit & available, Bos was first choice. AFAIK Farrel has not been capped yet.

Mike tuckerman joins team "stop your whining" haha

I suppose my thoughts are
1) football is for the fans, lets celebrate all non troll opinions
2) I do wish there was more celebration including credit to the coach. We don't get many opportunities to celebrate and there is only 4 days to celebrate before we might get a bad result against China and need to get the pitchforks back out. We need to make the most of the celebrations to stay sane :D

No one says don't celebrate the win, I'm all for celebrating the win. But you can still have discourse as to how the win was achieved, and the style of play that was used to achieve the win. You can talk about the lack of a plan B, and the likelihood of a plan B being required.

This idea that winning excuses all the pertinent questions about weaknesses in the team is just dumb.

Case and point, the recent history of the Matildas.

Has been injured forever. Hope his injuries don't hurt his career because I'd say Farrell is our best LB defender.

Bos could be the best LB attacker but Farrell wouldn't be far behind him.

what makes you think there is no plan b?

Predictions for the next line up? He usually swaps 6 players, so I'm guessing

----------------ryan------------
----geria--burgess-degenek-----
-karacic-irvine-triantis--davidson
-vellupilay----duke---Goodwin----
I’d be reasonably happy if that’s the starting eleven

15 years of watching Popa.
quite a variety of game plans in those 15 years? WSW had a mid block, mv he played possession based football. Even for the roos there has been quite a variety of game plans, even in the same match.
I get that people say ange has no plan b - I disagree with that his methods seem pretty successful - but that seems a harsh criticism of poppa?

I'm yet to see a variation from sitting deep and attempting to hit on the counter. He refuses to attempt buildup play in the final 3rd; even if he was compelled to,he is resistant to push forward, and he refuses to look at players that are required for that style.

The game against Bahrain demonstrated this.

But any 1 of these players worth more than a whole Oz team.

I was there and it was more a chore for England to even play. They weren't interested. Australia had a good go.

The big nations are funny as they'll always be pretty standard in friendlies but then get bogged down in tournament games too. You play how you train?

That night saw Goodwin, Metcalfe, Souttar, Burgess and Strain have good games. TAA, Colwill, Gallagher, Madison, Grealish were poor to the regulars jeers of the Australian end.
