Hi all.

This is a thread for the stadium and the adjacent station out in Tarneit. If you have photos, news on how things are progressing. Feel free to drop them here. :)

Early Works to Commence for Western United stadium

According to this September article, early works were due to commence sometime last month. I plan to investigate some time this week, as it is a 15-minute drive from my house. Here's hoping for a Vuck v WU match there.
That article is three years old mate. But apparently WU will be in it for 2026... they'd want to get a move on to meet that deadline.

this is a bit more up to date, from September 2024.

Council has endorsed two development proposals for the precinct. I'm guessing these are the same as a development application, but not being in Victoria I am a little unsure of their processes with local government.

This follows Council approving the overall precinct strategic plan in March 2024.

So it is not like things are progressing, they are. Planning and design phases for large projects, especially if it involves a large area of different kinds of development just take a very long time to complete.

This is why the thread is made. We must monitor progress because if things slip, they won't be done.

in infrastructure, things almost always slip. The bigger it is the more chances it will slip.

I think they will build it for sure I just want to see progress pictures. It is part of the integral future development of the area and would be a waste of space otherwise imho.

I think there are questions that need to be answered regarding surrounding infrastructure. The new train station we all thought was going to be built at Sayers Rd, will now being built at Davis Rd about 2km away. We were also told that Riverdale Town Centre is going to be built centre south of the train tracks. How long?

It's looking less and less likely this will be built before 2030.

Remember they were supposed to be in by season 3.

Maybe they are waiting on clarity but fmd if this isn't built near the stadium it will become a Waverly Park 2.0 but I don't see a logical reason as to why they would do that considering what has been invested already.

$ue $iligence
God people worshipped the Lowys as if they did anything revolutionary and it makes me sick. They made millions off the world's biggest game after we made the WC, the world's biggest tourny, for the first time in over 30 years of absence.

A run-down of all the Wyndham City Stadium (Western United) news from the last 24hrs (ESPN, The Australian, & official A-Leagues press release)
15k Wyndham City Stadium to be built by 2026-2027. Modelled on PayPal Park in US

Aiming to lay the foundations of the stadium by mid-late 2024

2.5k temporary seats have been purchased for the 5k training precinct. Club hopeful of playing out of there by March 2024

Melbourne property developer YourLand Developments (who are managing the already-approved masterplan) & American building technology group Johnson Controls (a NY stock-exchange listed conglomerate worth AU$56bn) are investing in the AU$2bn development of the entire precinct (as I understand, which includes the 15k stadium, as both the stadium and precinct and intricately linked)

Johnson Controls are the "technology partner of the project" which I assume means they'll be the official construction partner (what Probuild were supposed to be before their collapse). [However I'm speculating here - it's possible a seperate construction partner will be announced now that the $2bn funding has been approved.]

A $50 mil debt facility (a type of loan agreement) will help unlock the public-private partnership with Wyndham City Council for the stadium & then the entire 62.5ha precinct. WMG (West Melbourne Group) have already spent $70mil on prep work (via investors such as Scott Pendlebury, Thanasi Kokkinakis, etc.) but needed this extra $50mil to lock in the next stage of development.

[A few things: firstly, this need for an up-front $50mil would explain the promised funding (of $50mil-$100mil) from the Liberal Party last year (if they won the election). Second, I assume this need for the $50mil explains the delays (by a few months) for moving into the 5k training precinct. There were rumours (speculation) that WMG hadn't yet paid for the access roads, hence the delay. If true, this funding should clear that up.]

Entire 62.5ha project (stadium & precinct masterplan) hoping for a phased completion over 10 years. Four distinct precincts including: High Performance Sports Precinct, Stadium Precinct, Residential Precinct; Commercial and Mixed-Use Precinct.

Will eventually be approx. 100,000 people living in the precinct (within a 2km radius)

Player payments delay was simply due to banking transfer limits being exceeded, was just a 24hr delay

[Final note: I believe the value capture model previously touted by WMG will still help fund the precinct down the track, but this up-front money will help with the initial construction.

100,000 people living within walking distance of the stadium would be positive. When do they start moving in?

what could go wrong???? So did they lay the foundations by mid 2024? Asking for a friend.

Consultation open on designs for a new V/Line station in the west between Tarneit and Wyndham Vale. Please contribute if you can.

Absolutely NOT .... They need another hospital out there the New Foostcray Hospital isnt going to be enough... an extra train station to make selling a housing estate easier isnt what taxpayers should be supporting.
