Wyndham City Stadium Thread

for someone that claims that racism is a reason why SMFC doesn't have an A-League franchise, this is a really racist thing to say
???? Sorry I dont follow? How is saying that a new area with lots of young families more interested in cricket than soccer racist?

The wetlands and open space (future) looks nice....
I'm not sure what they're going to do with the wetlands. The master plan only says the following:

Development in and around the wetlands will:
  • Treat the wetlands as an attractive landscape feature of the development.
  • Ensure that the role of the wetlands in managing stormwater run-off is not compromised.
  • Include landscape design and planting that encourages the sustainable treatment of water and biodiversity and supports the health and vitality of the Davis Creek corridor.
  • Discourage shadows to the wetlands between 9am and 3pm on 22 September.
  • Orient buildings and public spaces towards the wetlands where possible to provide for passive surveillance and engagement.

I was having a debate with a friend on the weekend after seeing the crowd at WUN vs MVC.

Was it ever confirmed that Western United approached Melbourne Knights in an attempt to sub let the stadium off them for their A-league matches? I believe this was discussed in length at the time but can't remember why it didn't get off the ground.

Not sure how true it is, but I was told that the venue would need upgrades to meet A-League standards. Knights said that WU could use the venue on the condition they paid for the upgrades required.

The figure being bandied around at the time was 150K .... WMG didnt want to pay it as they could travel around the AFL ovals for a couple of years and have a coucil ground for nothing after 4 years..... .. I also heard from a few Knights friends that one of the "conditions" that WMG put on funding the Somers St upgrades was that Croatia "hide" the Knights Stadium signage during the summer... how true it is I dont know but I can imagine the resounding "Go and get farked" from our Cro friends to that one :) hahahahahahaahahahahah

That definitely would have been one of the conditions.

That figure is very similar to what i was told as well (Id heard 200k a season). In hindsight, they should have paid it, considering its 50k to open the doors at AAMI for a single game.

GMHBA wouldnt have been far off 50k either.

All the more reason why its baffling they are playing "home" games in front of tiny crowds at AAMI this year???
