Summer of Cricket thread

Make the most of your time in that role mate as I reckon Aaron Hardie will be itching to pinch it from you.
India will be desperate to win this test to retain the trophy, amongst all the locker room drama. Apparently coach Gambhir tore into them and told them that he'd had enough of their crap. He mentioned that in the last six months he let the team do whatever they wanted (big mistake) and things would now change, with a pretty stern warning: whoever refuses to comply with will be given their marching orders. I think there are too many arrogant people in that team that think they're untouchable. So I applaud the coach for trying to change the team dynamic.

So great chance for Beau to impress.

Had he not made the call George Bailey and McDonald were facing an embarrassing loss of credibility.
Yeah for sure. In my experience, ive been around sports for a long time now and it seems to be a consistent trademark with our coaches in general. Ive noticed a significant lack of initiative, being overly conservative or too scared to move the chess pieces around when they need to. Rather than taking the required calculated risk, learning from the past and using their gut instinct to make the changes they know they should.

George Bailey and his panel been doing practically the opposite. I call it 'jobs for the boys', a reluctance to move on guys they played with due to the friendships that were built during those years as team mates. Too scared, as you say, to hurt feelings. This type make poor coaches.

Very interesting post re Raf McMillan!
Our selectors seem to prefer Test r/a finger spinners so young McMillan may leapfrog all of them if Lyon stays for a few more years. McM is exceptionally accurate for a teen, gets good turn and has the confidence to give the ball air to induce a drive. A good prospect.

DC you and any other Tasmanians here will be cock a hoop with this news mate.

‘Time for a freshen up’: Marsh axed as Webster set for shock SCG debut

Very excited about it.

A few of us know Webster. I've spoken to him a bit, but other members know him much better, like P and J. When he was having a slightly lean trot, the Tas Crick CEO wanted us to keep reminding him of a few brilliant innings he had made as he was a bit despondent.

The CEO said Webster was deposed of the captaincy, because the coaching staff could see his potential for Test cricket. They wanted him just to concentrate on performance over a wide range of areas - close in catching, batting, pace and spin bowling. He has only bowled pace for 4 years. This is an allrounder, unlike Green and Marsh, who has bowled first change for Tas in the Shield, and has bowled long spells of pace as well as finger spin. He is a battle hardened bowler.

Both Green and Marsh have been excellent bowlers as allrounders, but can't bowl long spells and do the donkey work. Webster can reduce Starc's workload.

So Starc will be playing thru pain again. He took a solitary wicket at the G, looked cooked. Word is back trouble. Not an injury to be brushing away.

Starc has been brilliant - and - late in his career.

He can now bowl short spells in this Test, with Webster able to do the back up, donkey work.

Once rated Bison at Test level and pushed his barrow when others called for his sacking. He just kept on disappointing me until I finally had to relent and join the majority calling for his head. He was sacked shortly after that from memory.
He has been a very good all rounder.

Born in Sydney. Another born in my state Chris Tremain was the leading bowler in '23/24. Both forced to leave for other states because Blues selectors ignored them. In another era both would have had long Test careers.
Given his Test figures, Jackson B deserved more Test cricket.

He was dropped from Aus after one slightly worse performance and never played Tests again, taking a plethora of Shield wickets.

Although it has been very difficult to replace thee three NSW greats all playing in the same team. Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood are all world class fast bowlers and have been for a very long time.

Interesting post, Rimac.

I wonder what Kohli's massive ego and arrogance is like for team unity?

At a meet the players night in Tas Members, Tim Paine was asked by a member of the audience, when he was Test captain and keynote speaker, who was the most annoying player in world cricket - and - his teammates?

Immediately TP said Virat Kohli easily was the most annoying player in world cricket by some margin!
