World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Would love yours (and Decentric’s) thoughts on Zac De Jesus.

As our only Young Socceroos-eligible (2005 & younger) RB getting any meaningful game time, we as a nation really need him to kick on.
Not good enough at an Australian professional level at the moment. He gives us good legs in the position but other than that, he hasn’t impressed. He had the club back him over Adamson, wrong move imo.

Without looking him up on Wikipedia, have no idea where he plays?

I'd never heard of Zac De Jesus until looking at this post? I've mostly watched the two Melb clubs, plus Western U and probably Macarthur this season, in full matches in the AL. They all have decent RBs - possible future, past or present Socceroos.

new rb (born 2006) for sfc

Pierias has been excellent and must be short listed for the next squad. Looks very at home in an overlapping RWB role. Options stacking up.

Sainsbury being touted more for a recall.

Can he defend?
Not so well but I'll take him before Miller. I'd like our wing backs to be more attacking minded and our mids to help out. At the same time it's not like he can't tackle but defending certainly isn't his strong point.

Solid assists and runs down the line of late. Caused a bit of a stir in football chatter. Still fairly unlikely.

We use the three cbs and at least 1 dm to push counter attacks wide, so even an agricultural challenge outside the box is ok if he lacks the skill to tackle cleanly. If it's wide it won't be a dogso

I felt Bos got it right to a tee against Japan. Burgess herded the hell put of them to pull wide. That's how I feel. Our wings backs needn't worry too much as we've got cover. I believe Metcalfe wins a lot of those close standing duels blocking for throws.

Sainsbury has been average

I feel he's looked a bit lazy stretching for final blocks. Can't have that for the national team. People referring to his experience but he came across as too casual last campaign and even Arnold omitted him.

I was impressed with Pierias. I think he's definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Sainsbury's only been back for two seconds. I would have thought we've moved on from him.

Sainsbury has been incredibly lazy and disinterested since returning to the A-League, and that’s coming from a CCM fan who loves him!

I’m super disappointed in the version of him we’ve ended up with. He just seems so unmotivated, and almost every goal we concede when he is on the field, is from the player he is ‘marking’.

There is absolutely zero chance he gets a Socceroos call-up on merit as a defender. If he gets called up, it would purely be for his experience.

If he gets called up, it would be an absolute travesty. I completely agree with the lazy and disinterested comment.

Glad to see I'm not just seeing things. If he's the last man when the Mariners concede, there's no drive to slide and block the shot. You just can't be like that even if it's the twilight of your career.
