Northern NSW have their own “federation” or whatever it’s called right? ACT is the other “state” and I’m assuming nobody cares about the Northern Territory?Whereabouts are the two new states ? The last i checked, we only have six.
I meant more that Adelaide and WA AFL clubs have their own massive fanbases and any Victorians coming over are just icing on the cake...What???
For starters the AFL came into existence when the original VFL was going broke with 12 teams. Port Adelaide had dominated the SAFL so much that they wanted better competition and were set to join the VFL for a fee. SAFL got told and their bigotry crumbled (SA are very anti-Victorian) and paid a bigger fee. South Melbourne was sent packing to Sydney and the three state solution came into existence. WA not to be left out because they would not be able to compete salary wise joined a few years later and that crook Chris Skase stumped up to create the Brisbane Bears. For many years only Victoria had multiple teams. I was working in WA back then and there would be plane loads of interstaters flying in to watch matches against the Eagles. Even 8 years ago working in Adelaide getting hotel rooms during the AFL season was hard.
So there are plenty of supporters that make the trip to the 2 team states (all but Victoria). The last two teams created have been abysmal failures crowd wise but the deep pockets of the AFL keep them going.
Sure, I missed a word ... meant to say state federations (and yes I know that NNSW an NSW are the same state smarty pants)Whereabouts are the two new states ? The last i checked, we only have six.
Well its ON for October, and no longer called the NST so what do you know? hAHAHAHAAHAHAAH just kidding, requiring 8 states to be represented would be an epic way to delay the nst
Nothing concrete yet.Any news of a Gold Coast side in the comp?
ACT & NT are not states. Their is a hint for you in their names.Northern NSW have their own “federation” or whatever it’s called right? ACT is the other “state” and I’m assuming nobody cares about the Northern Territory?
Puts on helmet.Sounds like APL can't do two things at once. They're waiting for Canberra and can't manage anything else.
Let me guess, Sydney isnt in Wales either?ACT & NT are not states. Their is a hint for you in their names.
Agree with all that, well said. I don't mean to contradict myself haha. But I was having a dig at the APL announcing getting to 16 clubs next season, and we haven't heard of any progress, zero. We've only just recently heard that Canberra is out again for next season, but only after being poked by a journalist!Puts on helmet.
I read crowds are up by 14% on the same time last year..... Ratings are also up and I am told by a lot as are subscriptions.
Also last year had crowds up 8% and almost doubled the ratings.
No major stuff ups over the last two years since the new management team is in place.
Actually APLs weekly show is reasonably quality.... Add they stopped making those crazy statements like we will be the biggest code within ten years.
Further, they started to sell the league as a development league and I think it's working.
Coupled with this is JJ, and IMO his astute management of FA, and getting major tournaments..... hopefully he can also help in getting Perry Park to a small stadium.
In summary, from being at deaths door, say three years ago at one minute to midnight... Football with current FA n APL management is heading north.
The Championship new competition is I think the start of something that if managed well can create a more Football environment.
Better imo for steady growth rather than boom bust over promise.
The helmet was because if you say positive things it normally draws negative reactions.I tend to think increases are the Not right description whatsoever.
It’s not new incremental increase per se it’s purely recovering some Lost business.
Be it crowds or viewership.
No need for your helmet Middy.
It’s just pure facts when youve lost a motza its takes a long time from when it was boom and bust for that is AL’s history in the first place.
Hence the “states” in quotation marks. Those things in front of and after the word “states”. These “”ACT & NT are not states. Their is a hint for you in their names.
As much as I'd like to see a CBR team, the league needs to start looking at other areas in the interim. We were supposed to be at 16 after next season.
Ah yep, correct, before the end of their next TV deal.It was 16 teams NEXT season, not the one after![]()
I doubt it. Can't help but wonder if they've sat on their hands a little with 15 and 16 off the back of the Championship. It was 16 teams NEXT season, not the one after
And yeah, if they had more business sense then 15 and 16 would be good to go by now. Maybe they are ready, who knows? They certainly tell the fans nothing.
Two Aussie teams entered the S-League back in 1994. It was a disaster financially.Get a Singaporean team in. Closer ties to Asia and the ability to have another long distance derby. They could be enticed to have Darwin as a local base.
