World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

I'm preparing myself to be disappointed by Popovic's squad selection with random obscure selections and glaring omissions! Players out of form or barely playing being picked and other players banging the door down and missing out.
 
Triantis, Balard, Nisbet, Irankunda, Segecic, Kalik, Toure... I'd even take Nieuwenhof although he probably needs another month.

Instead we'll get Dad's Army and maybe a couple of other old rejects. That'll excite the fans.

Pot 2 sucks in some ways. No back to back home game window and first game always at home. We fly all the way and have little time together. This is why I like starting one or two A league players for the freshness. Our best get in very late.

A dip but then we're into the really shit era of international football with expanded world cups.

It makes me so mad we've put ourselves in this hole again. We're actually better placed than the last 2 times. It's just so frustrating the same unreliables have been picked who got us into the shit the last time around. I'd rather play the new promising bunch and find out where they can cut it.

When I said I wanted more draws in our group I didn't mean in our own games. The results in our group have been so balanced and China have gotten their wins.

Yes, it's quite amazing that in 2014 we were third with 19 points and this time we would have to win our last 4 games (including against pots 1 and 3) just to get to 19 points and we would be a clear second.
