A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 4

So this win will send Melbourne top (pending results) - I bet a lot of those deriding PK now are probably eating a little bit of humble pie right now.

Disappointingly clueless second half from us.

Victory stayed on top then comfortably sat back and let us stuff around with no direction or cutting edge.

Arzani looked a lesser player than he has been. Did a few very nice things but several times he sat on the ball too long and wasted a chance that someone else's effort was offering or he took the ball the wrong way. It seemed a bit like he felt he needed to be great every time instead of playing the greater team game.

Piscopo continued to be great. I think the early shower for him was a reward and to keep him safe and fresh.

The Victory youth were all showing their quality again this game. Shame we have to see it at our expense :(.

Comfortable victory for Victory I am afraid with a well fought first half and a safe and solid second after going 2 goals up.

Still reckon PK is a dud - the MV compared to the Roar, is like a Prem team to League 1. It's going to be a long season for us Roar fans

I am surprised Vidmar's goal stood. It looks to me like a very clearly offside Danzaki (77) is preventing the defender from applying any pressure at all to the player who crosses it in.

And that's why Piscapo should've been included in the Socceroos squad - close to the best player in the comp so far this season
These skills are so vital at international level. He'll either beat the man or win a pen doing that. We need to shoot more and get balls into the box against Bahrain. They may not clear everything cleanly.

Has a hoarding or something been removed in that corner at Hindmarsh? Higher camera? Just never noticed how easily you could see the road or traffic behind.

Holy shit. Just saw the worst no penalty call in the western United Adelaide match.

Unless the VAR saw something I didn't.

How was that not a penalty? He was taken out, from behind, and it is irrelevant where the ball was. That had to be a foul.

Who is in the VAR box tonight?

He kicked the shit out of him. It was the clearest penalty this year. Ref was way over on the other corner of the 18 but what the hell was VAR doing?
If you have the inclination have a look at the lead up to Vidmar's goal on 10 minutes. Danzaki is clearly a whole body ahead of the defenders when the kick is taken and pushes hard to keep Pierias away from Leonard - allowing him the freedom to cross in to Vidmar.

I don't know what I could be missing for that goal not to be disallowed. Totally stumped.

Was VAR manned by AI tonight as a trial?

I’ve just seen it on the game wrap, missed that part of the game live. What was the VAR ref thinking???

The no Penalty and the Ibusaki no shirt pull. 2 unbelievably poor decisions against the away team Disgusting reffing.

The only exoneration for Elder on the shirt pull is that he was possibly directly in front of Ibusuki and the shirt pull was completely invisible to him. Leaves the other officials at fault but possibly also unsighted in that moment especially the official directly behind the shirt puller. VAR can't step in on that call at all. We all saw it - except perhaps the two people who needed to.

Ok I’m not one to call out the referees but the referee standard so far this season have been quite poor, seen to getting some daft calls almost in each round so far.

A good example tonight, the most clearest penalty you ever get and the ref and even VAR were blind to not see it as one, incredible!

I also noticed the head of refs whom I think is from the UK saying the game should be let go more to have less stop and start in games but you have to protect the players especially the skilful ones and I don’t want to see the skilful players taken out of the game as what the fans want to see at the end of the day.
This is not the UK lol.

That's exactly right. The ref couldn't see it from where he was.

Harper should know better than to slag off the ref for something he most likely couldn't see. Yes it was obvious to us but we don't have the whistle.
