A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 4

So this win will send Melbourne top (pending results) - I bet a lot of those deriding PK now are probably eating a little bit of humble pie right now.

I thought most MV fans seem to think he was maybe a good coach for a-league but just didn't like the city connection?

The only exoneration for Elder on the shirt pull is that he was possibly directly in front of Ibusuki and the shirt pull was completely invisible to him. Leaves the other officials at fault but possibly also unsighted in that moment especially the official directly behind the shirt puller. VAR can't step in on that call at all. We all saw it - except perhaps the two people who needed to.

Agreed and if u let go obvious reds and penalties that doesnt prepare them for asian football

I always preferred the protection of the players especially the skilful ones, no one wants to see them take out of the game due to strong tackles or excessive duels.

Got to fine that right balance but not in place of excessive play, this is not rugby or afl.
Football as a foundation is a technical game with many football actions that are taken place that are needed to be protected.

I agree with the "let it play" where there are bumps, knocks and nudges that are part of genuine contact in challenging for the ball. Too much is pulled up because a player twists his body to get his back slightly towards his opponent in a 50/50 challenge then drops, or fails in a contest and tries to milk any contact they can. The real challenge is applying a consistent approach across different officials and different games. Players should not have to try it and see every game to find out what the day's limits are.

Pulling someone back by the shirt and taking their legs out from behind are not grey areas. The first limits the skill we want to see and the second risks harm.

A shirt pull belongs in the game - as a professional foul - taking one for the team. It needs to be penalised appropriately when it happens - not just after enough of them have been done to make it worth a card.

I agree - finding the balance is the hard part and what we have to strive for.

I'm calling that disgusting exaggeration by Ishige both times.

The second one is one of those moments where light contact is made then a second later there is an extreme and theatrical reaction. He even holds his face when the contact is nowhere near it.

He shows such quality on and off the ball but I have no respect at all for him after that shit. Diving cheat.

And the ref - after we hear how much they are bringing a more physical game and see it played out - dishes out cards for it very slight contact.

If Matthews did that when he's wearing a Socceroo jersey, we'd be blowing up. Completely unnecessary both cards. I rate him very highly, but that was pathetic

Mehmeti (2007) starting

I dont think a 17 yr old striker has started in the history of the a league?

Quintal looks like a very good prospect for Sydney always looking to get on the ball and create, I think he made a bigger impact than most of the starting players for Sydney.
A shame he’s teammates weren’t switched on for the pass that led to the turnover over and goal for the Bulls.
Sydney looked very flat for most of it and the Bulls seem to be their bogey team oddly enough when they play at home.

Also an amazing bycycle kick by Ariol for the Bulls, one of the goals for the season already.

Wild goal by Piol. Which African nation could cap him? One to keep an eye on perhaps.

Playing on Thursday night looked to have taken its toll on Sydney, but for the final 15 minutes with only 10 men, they were doing all the running.

Was the young female referee, also a rugby league referee ? She was way out of her depth.

The referring standards this season have been underwhelming so far to say at least.

Glory just could not get their act together. Almost every pressure ball went straight to a City player all night.

Credit to a very professional and smooth City - but Glory could not take a trick. Outplayed and unlucky on the one night is a killer.

'Funny' that they showed Reddy coming out and making a hideous blunder in the halftime show then 30 seconds into the second half Sail comes out and makes a blunder just like it.

Perth
Newcastle
And maybe Brisbane they are last but don't look as bad as the other two.. are just making up the numbers. With no relegation is a bit shite and the bye round doesn't help.

I feel like the top six and top two will be decided early this season

Specifically what was your problem with her?

I saw her not give one foul and thought she should have given a yellow when she didn't for one foul but other than that i thought she was fine.

Did you know that in every league IN THE WORLD there are refereeing controversies EVERY SINGLE MATCH?

What's more likely?

The standard of refereeing is going down around THE ENTIRE WORLD.

Or people are submitting them to more hyper critical scrutiny which is amplified by social media which creates a situation where every single arguable decision is used to make the referees look incompetent?

Ufuk Talay yesterday was a ridiculous clown on the line yesterday.

Late in the game a throw in went against them. Him and just about everyone in the technical area went berserk. What a flog.

Way to set an example.

I think he got booked. I hope he did. Fuck these idiots. It was a throw in, not a penalty.

Muz I agree but that kind of respect accept and carry on swings and roundabouts went long ago in the pro game as if it’s a huge disadvantage.
Yes your hard done by depending where on the pitch and situation but it sure is over played today incl by the gaffa and coaching staff.
It sure teachs the wrong attitude to the youth watching.
