Sign Up Now!South Melbourne under Ange put up a much-better fight against Fergie’s ManU side at the inaugural edition back in 2000, so ultimately this result is just an indictment on Auckland City.it's interesting because Auckland City in the past have been generally competitive at the old format, either advancing or not being embarassed. Granted - this never included matches against European clubs though
3 years is a weird number to throw these tournaments in though. Because at some stage it's going to clash with a World Cup / Euros / Copa America, etc.South Melbourne under Ange put up a much-better fight against Fergie’s ManU side at the inaugural edition back in 2000, so ultimately this result is just an indictment on Auckland City.
That said, I agree w/others that increasing this to 32 teams was an unnecessary, bad idea. Instead it should’ve been increased to 16 in a 4-group home&away Champions League format held every 3 years, IMHO.
Good point. South Melbourne were comparably very good footballers and United didn't want to be there in 99. Yet Bayern Auckland in the modern game showed the gulf in class.South Melbourne under Ange put up a much-better fight against Fergie’s ManU side at the inaugural edition back in 2000, so ultimately this result is just an indictment on Auckland City.

Auckland are going to look pretty ordinary they are yet to play Benfica and Boca. That's how the OFC is unfortunately but the rest of the games should be fairly decent. A League simply isn't OFC.
I just like how we'll see AFC, CAF teams enjoying the chance to face bigger confederations.
I'm against the tournament in essence but enjoy the colour especially in the early days.
I'd sooner seeing you boycott your afl haha that makes a more viable stand for our game locally.I'm boycotting it besides reading the results. I think it's a cash grab and I don't want to support it
That's complicated lfc guy but I take your pointI'd sooner seeing you boycott your afl haha that makes a more viable stand for our game locally.
Literally howThat's complicated
I haveLiterally how
All you’d have to do is stop supporting the sport that for 145 years&counting has made next to no secret of its desire to see️‘s extinction in this country(preferably by its hand)..

I believe there was $3.6 million from what I readIf anything those Auckland players forgoing pay for their jobs should be compensated by the money pool. Is there a minimum prize money?
you are not alone that is for sure.Wow I feel like I'm betraying you guys.
Now AFL is definitely done harm to our game I'm reading a book about it m but Carlton is ingrained in my family so for a few hours every weekend I get behind them
Don't listen to the ahters mate, Petrodollars have done more to harm our wonderful sport than the AFL ever has or will... It is a bit of a chance for competing confeds to highlight their wares, Im not hugely interested but its football afterall... pleased for the Egyptian side that popped Inter Miamis balloon for example. I wont be waking up to watch but will certainly keep abreast of the highlights.Wow I feel like I'm betraying you guys.

Still, a bit weird for a CFG supporter to be boycotting a tournament like this![]()
