FIFA Club World Cup 2025

it's interesting because Auckland City in the past have been generally competitive at the old format, either advancing or not being embarassed. Granted - this never included matches against European clubs though

THE ONLY good thing about it from my perspective is more football viewing through the off season thats it.

South Melbourne under Ange put up a much-better fight against Fergie’s ManU side at the inaugural edition back in 2000, so ultimately this result is just an indictment on Auckland City.

That said, I agree w/others that increasing this to 32 teams was an unnecessary, bad idea. Instead it should’ve been increased to 16 in a 4-group home&away Champions League format held every 3 years, IMHO.

3 years is a weird number to throw these tournaments in though. Because at some stage it's going to clash with a World Cup / Euros / Copa America, etc.

4 is good if they absolutely had to expand it - could always make it 24 instead - Winners of all Champions League equivalents over the previous 4 seasons (but keep the same structure for Oceania only getting one given this walkover, giving 2 extra to UEFA and 1 to CONMEBOL probably)

But personally, the old format was perfectly fine as an annual thing...

That's how the OFC is unfortunately but the rest of the games should be fairly decent. A League simply isn't OFC.

I just like how we'll see AFC, CAF teams enjoying the chance to face bigger confederations.

I'm against the tournament in essence but enjoy the colour especially in the early days.

Good point. South Melbourne were comparably very good footballers and United didn't want to be there in 99. Yet Bayern Auckland in the modern game showed the gulf in class.

Auckland are going to look pretty ordinary they are yet to play Benfica and Boca.
Depending what kind of sides they put out I expect Auckland will hardly touch the ball again but picking it out of the net near 10 each of those games as well.
Amazed Kane didn't get on Bayerns score sheet.

PSG cruised through Atleti - whilst Auckland enjoyed just 28% possesion Atleti only had 25% ! PSG are in the zone big time.
Palmeiros Porto was a good game - Grp A both drwan games makes for a good contest that iuncl Messi's Miami.
Got to say there is some good contests coming up over the next few days

That's complicated
Literally how❓
All you’d have to do is stop supporting the sport that for 145 years&counting has made next to no secret of its desire to see ⚽️‘s extinction in this country(preferably by its hand)..

If anything those Auckland players forgoing pay for their jobs should be compensated by the money pool. Is there a minimum prize money?

Wow I feel like I'm betraying you guys.

Now AFL is definitely done harm to our game I'm reading a book about it m but Carlton is ingrained in my family so for a few hours every weekend I get behind them

you are not alone that is for sure.
BA81 covers my feelings and outlook greatly even though I know you southerners had to conform to feel part of the melb fabric (the olders fellas MCG) but I have kept saying, the more you guys keep providing them ticket sales, attend your adding harm/contributing to their cause.
Obviously it offends but as they say, the truth hurts.
Sure before others say about NRL, same would apply up here by dual code followers but I'd say its minor compared to down south.
Maybe you should be the first in your fam to start the change for the future and your kids ahead :)

Yer spouse good on the Auckland fellas, couldn't expect anything from them, least as HG mentions they a good paycheck.
Bet the players won't get much of a bonus but hopefully down to grass roots more of the money goes to.

Don't listen to the ahters mate, Petrodollars have done more to harm our wonderful sport than the AFL ever has or will... It is a bit of a chance for competing confeds to highlight their wares, Im not hugely interested but its football afterall... pleased for the Egyptian side that popped Inter Miamis balloon for example. I wont be waking up to watch but will certainly keep abreast of the highlights.

Still, a bit weird for a CFG supporter to be boycotting a tournament like this :P
