I can honestly say i never seen any violence with the southern fairy boys. SFC have not really declined, we have a rusted on average of about 12-13000 over the the twenty seasons , not Covid affected.

Oh, Im pretty much the same ... Couldnt even tell you who plays for which team... just find it harder to tune out I guess :)
 
About 5000 extra people turned up because they had free tickets that were handed out to registered players in WA in 2024……..

Who cares how they got the tickets, they had a great day out and it was really one for the kids and that is all that matters. If the kids had fun who to say there parents wont buy a ticket for the next match.
 
I think it’s a good initiative so well done Perth. The recent women’s Ashes test was free for U-16s and $4 tickets I heard. Could A-Liga could also try something similar with discount tickets.
 
One other reason I think it's hard for casuals to follow the a league is the outgoing transfers. See me and you appreciate it but not people who don't under the global sport they would be Thinking why support a team if a player gets sold to Denmark for example.

Kids aren't going to get Jed drew shirts when he gets sold after a season or two

Players in all sports get bought, sold or traded, all the time. Football is no different to any other sport. It's a job to them.

I actually agree a bit with this thought.

I look at the Roar and who do we have that is a dyed in the wool long serving soldier for the club now? Corey Brown (left us for MV and came back with all the uproar and did not play) and Jack Hingert (who is a club stalwart but not a character to draw fans for him alone).

Anyone (casual types) who is not already behind the club is going to be wondering season after season who the hell is taking the field for us. I am awful at putting names and faces together and it takes me many weeks to know who I am watching - there are no characters at my club who would draw a casual observer and my wife has said from time to time 'I don't know any of our players any more'.

The football has to be good enough to carry the casual in the absence of flashy attention holders - with players swapping between rivals so much under our salary capped league that a good player moves on rather than staying and building a personal following with one club more often than not.

In the absence of good football, there is nothing else to draw casuals into becoming regulars then fans.

We were watching Waddingham as a newly emerging talent - now he is gone. We can watch Brazete, Herrington, Klein, Burke-Gilroy but I am sure we will be losing some of them sometime in the next season or so.

A football club needs an identity and to me the simplest way for that (without having the community support to begin with due to the franchise system) is to have a stable core to your team that play decent football and casuals can take note of them as individuals or as a group and come back for them.

It's about the fans.

Also, the AFL being a local sport means that trades are actually quite minor. The AFL has also created really boring TV & media content with the draft coverage. Not sure about the NRL. With basketball, the entire aim of the game is to send players to the USA and make a big hooha when an American shows up.

Can you give a example? I don't really follow other sports I'm just saying it's a problem for the a league like when you have kisnorbo (melb city legend) and Bruno playing for victory if they don't give a fook why should the fans ridiculous

The name on the front of the shirt means a thousand times more than any name on the back of it.....

When Figo left Barcelona for Real Madrid I am willing to bet that that no more than 3 people world wide (and they certainly weren't Spanish residents) followed him across.... Players are temporary, club is eternal.

it was only the other week they had fights outside the stadium, footage can be found online. (MV v SydFC)

You also lose the casuals when you get relegated or are playing shit ... the point is we NEED to get to the point where the majority of fans are rusted (through thick or thin) on club fans... you can't (as the FFA and now APL are finding out) rely on "casuals".
