A-league attendances 24/25

Crowds are on the up, but that's still rebounding from the Covid period.

Current crowd average for this season is on a par with 2018/2019 - the last non-Covid affected season.
Thanks for the graph. Super helpful. It's good to see the crowds overall on the way up. Its been a long recovery since the FFA abandoned the fans and threw them under the bus. I know COVID hit and that shut things down but crowds by and large were well down before that too thanks to Gallop and Co.

Good graph - unfortunately the season average this season won't be over 10k like 2018/19. But still hopeful of a bit of overall improvement across this season from last season, which will be encouraging.

It might. If Auckland pull 10k+ every home game it's going to make a difference. There are two Auckland v Nix games to go which should both bring big numbers, especially if both clubs continue getting positive results on the field. So far MV, SFC and AU are looking good on field which are all good for 10k+ a game. If WSW start getting positive results their numbers should rise as well. That being said, next week (Unite Round) will probably be the lowest attended round of the season.

I like your optimism and agree Auckland are a good addition for the league attendance wise so far and are a real bright spot. But there's already not a lot to suggest the league and clubs overall will be able to bring in roughly 380,000 more attendees with just 7 more games than last season. I hope I'm wrong

Good stuff. I've been thinking about how to get a more accurate comparison. If you use raw averages you're liable to get skewed results this early in the season. Especially with new a new team to factor in. It will be interesting to see the trends as the season progresses.

Yes similar, numbers are definitely up compared to the first four rounds last season. Probably due to derby overloads in the first few rounds and strong initial crowds for Auckland.

The season to date has seen 256,336 attend at an average of 10,681 per game (35.6% of capacity). This is up 35.6% on the first 4 rounds of 2023-24. This remains the best start to a season on average since 2019-20, and on aggregate since 2018-19.

No Sydney/Wanders derby before Round 5 last year (28,000), and City/Victory wasnt until Round 9. (25,000). Both derbies in Round 1 and 2 this year and then the Kiwi Fracas in Round 3 make for a top start

Interesting, thanks - thought that was the case as didn't remember a Melb or Syd derby in opening couple of rounds last season. And already gonna have another Sydney derby by next weekend this season.

What’s the excuse for another poor melb victory crowd today?

I was pretty shocked at how low it was. i was expecting closer to 15k given it was a Saturday and we have started the season well.

We might well have to accept that this is the new norm for us and many fans won't return after the club shafted us.

Unite round:

Day 1: 5,156
Day 2: 30,777
Day 3: 4,826

Hopefully that sorts out Danny Townsends horrible mistake and we never hear of this unite round again.

A-League round 6
Adelaide United vs Perth 8,443
Auckland vs Newcastle
Melbourne City vs WSW
Macarthur vs Brisbane
Western United vs Melbourne Victory

Auckland v Nix next week is basically a sell out already, and it has been for a little while. The Sydney derby doesn't pass 25k ticket sales weeks in advance.

Give it few years and see how it ends up. Both derbies in SYD & MEL, used to sell out in advance.

Just got around to watching “Came from nowhere”. Geez it made me sad and angry to see what the ALeague could have been. The crowds at Wanderers games were amazing.
If only the football bosses had seen their role as defending football and its fans and being mediators rather than automatically aligning with the AFL/NRL based media and demonising the fans.
