A-League Men 24/25 - Round 9

Top game of football, excellent intensity as well as good football.

City had chances to go 2-0 which they will be left to rue but Beach their goalkeeper should have catched that, that’s the thing with young players they will make clangers from time to time.

However Victory played some excellent football, I thought Arzani and Piscopo looked very sharp they just lacked a finisher in the final third.

Western United beating Auckland was a surprise and won quite convincingly too, they got some good young players but Thurgate was excellent in this one.

Brisbane vs Perth say the less the better, not great from two struggling teams but a relief for Perth for finally get off the board but for Brisbane it’s not looking good and I don’t know where they will go from here as a club.

Piscopo has some acceleration on him. He drew a lot of fouls
That's where I think in Asia we can use his foul drawing and Arzani in small spaces to an advantage. The static predictable play from Boyle, Duke and others is getting us nowhere.

They've been really poor.
Maybe the Jan transfer window might bring them some luck?. Roar do have a bunch of kids on the field but that's no excuse as we have seen with CCM and the Nix and maybe so Adelaide if there coached right they can produce the goods. But yet again year after year they will flop until who knows. They should look at bring in Arnie as coach.

Derby was fun I felt a draw was a fair result. Beach did really well except the mistake which cost us the win a few people saying he should be dropped next week

Fair play to Western U.

They took their chances and played well against a previously undefeated team in Auckland - away.

Thurgate had a blinder didn't he?

The other pleasing thing is that Western U had a lot of young players stepping up. Botic's goal from a difficult bouncing ball, was technically superb! I don't know much about them, but the Western U Japanese imports work hard for the team unit, whilst a few attacking imports for some other teams tend to shirk graft.

I wouldn't get too excited, you guys were dire as well. I'm embarrassed to be a Roar supporter. No wonder the fans aren't turning up to watch - we've got better players in our FQPL 4 team

As a neutral I thought Roar were better than many posters on here think they were. They lost, but it was a close game.

Loved some beautiful turns and dribbling actions by Keygan Jelacic. Love a La Croqueta where he beat two players in succession! O'Shea got through some hard graft.

Adelaide played some very good football!

Archie Goodwin, along with a few other Aussie young strikers, is showing some predatory instincts around goal. Alagich continues to impress.

Shame a talent like Piscopo is battling for a starting position at MV, when Roar or Perth could do with a player of his quality in their starting line up. Love watching him play.

Haven't seen the replay of the Melb derby yet.

For me Alagich was MOTM. Dominated the midfield until he was spent. If he continues like that for the remainder of the season, he should be called up for a Socceroos camp.

MVC is Piscopo's third A-League club with WP and the Jets prior to MVC. I think that he is having a good season because of the team he is in whereas previously (and certainly with the Jets) he could not lift the sides and was nothing special. If you were to send him to BR or PG he would revert to Jets form.

Just caught up with the Western and Auckland match. I was surprised that Aloisi was given another club after Brisbane and more surprised that he not been fired from Western BUT he has proved me wrong. He has put together a cracking side this season. They are a pleasure to watch. A home, good football - I feel optimistic for the first time for the future of the club.

Seems like the loss of Dan Hall for Auckland is already proving significant.

He's playing well, but he's got a few ahead of him to make a Socceroo squad - Thurgate, Holman, Teague, Valadon to name a few

Thurgate is the only one in front. The other three are on par. And I didn't say that he would make the squad, just that he should be invited to the training camps.

The highlight this season which has been talked has been the emergence of young strikers coming up although through the a-league but is very encouraging for the future, they just now need to kick on overseas when they ready to go in the future.

However i’ve been impressed in a different part of the field a part where we have depth in anyway but two new prospects have done very well this round in Ethan Alagich and Dylan Scicluna, both not only comfortable showing for the ball but also show maturity tactically as well in a key position which has a lot of responsibility well done to both teams
trusting in Australian talent in that key position.

Just need to find some No.10s or advanced No.8s now…

Thurgate is an interesting one, he’s a bit more older but hasn’t put a foot wrong I wonder if he needs to go overseas to get that recognition he needs?

The other three are very talented as well but as know there is plenty of depth in that part of the field.
