A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 15

Last week it looked better with Grant playing CB, were he could organise team shape more than at RB.

With so many youngsters playing in the DM line ( when Corey Hollman plays there), and the defensive line, they make mistakes due to inexperience, and, are not as consistent as they will be later in their careers.
Sydney is playing alot of NPL and Academy players that have been given a go extensively this season and last so I wasn't expecting too much from them however they played as well as can be expected to be fair and they haven't been too bad. The issue with Sydney defence is that you always need an experienced defender ( or two ) to steady things at the back, provide direction, talk to the players in front of them, provide a bit of leadership and a bit of the physical stuff when required. Rhynan Grant is not central defender although he tries hard but he's not the man for the job. This comes down to recruitment, the squad which is very unbalanced, Talay's high press ( now gone ) and now tinkering weekly. Maybe Talay didn't want Costa but the lack of any recognised defenders at all is baffling.

Finally got around to watching the Auckland vs Melbourne City game. The MC players were bullied off the ball, Schreiber had a forgettable game, Ugarcovic's games are always forgettable except when he scores a wonder goal, and the starting line up wasn't the best. No weak links in Auckland's team. For MC, Lawrence Wong has great foot skills and this season I have seen him take three corners and all three kicks hit a MC player but he needs to gain a little weight and improve his speed.

Down 0-3 at half-time it seemed like City had already accepted defeat & decided to use the second half to give match experience to 3 youngsters.
