A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 3

Adelaide v WSW was entertaining for the neutral. The reds have some good options with two young strikers in Jovanovic and Archie Goodwin. Also Pierias gives them pace and another source of goals-he is an underrated player but also inconsistent.
Borello played well for the Wanderers and Popa will have an eye on him as well as Milanovic.

Feel sorry for the young WSW keeper-his GK coach needs to work hard on him getting the basics right.

All young keepers will have games like that. It can actually be good for them long term, as they learn to put those bad performances behind them. Hate to say it, but if Thomas was available it could have been a very different game.

LFC, I watched the game, it was a very exciting game, with some quality play despite the pressing, this will only help improve our first touch & pass. Some goo young players on display in Waddington, Segecic & Kurchaski, plus Sydney has found a gem in Sena.
I let others worry about crowds.
Sure agree re Sena though 28 and import he's showing his class.
I like for the shit and giggles on the wiki page - In 2024, he signed a 2 year contract with the A-Leagues biggest and most successful club, Sydney FC.
Young Segecic has promise.

In my opinion the Brisbane Roar would have to be the most unsustainable club in the league. A one city club should be able to attract enough of the general sporting public to pull in more than 6-7,000 per game. Particularly in Brisbane where vast swathes of the population are either migrants or are from migrant parents from countries where football is the preferred sport.
People generally go to games for one or more of the following reasons: 1. The quality of the play, 2. An affinity with the club/fellow attendees, 3. The general entertainment value (atmosphere) or 4. To watch favourite players.
In early seasons we had 2,3 and 4 with club favourites like Matty, Murdocca, Reinaldo. We had atmosphere with crowds averaging up to 18k. Then, we had former and current internationals like Tiato, Moore, and Ognenovski players like Broich and Berisha and brilliant youngsters like Oar and Kruse. Then we had Ange ball.
For the past 5-6 years the quality of the football has been poor, no characters, no quality youngsters, and no atmosphere.

The club/ground actively reduced the atmosphere when they stopped selling tickets to the areas near the Den. All General admission was moved to the opposite end of the ground to be away from the nasty active support and their singing.

As Sutherlander said - tried and failed.

But to me the reason for failure was more about the owner, silly statements before the first kick off ('we will win everything' from Miron as I recall), and alienation of the fans (again by the owner).

Pretty sure we have former Gold Coast United fans on here still who can confirm or pass on their views.

That all said, we had a genuine rivalry with them, the games were well attended (until fans got alienated and chose to stay away), and they were not a failure of a club on the pitch by any means. I think a Gold Coast club could be viable and I would love having a crappy South Brisbane team to pay out on again. Can they get fans back who really hated what went on last time? Surely so if it is a new team/owner/management without those ties.
Failed because of stupid security rules which meant it was financially better for the owner to cap crowds at 5,000.
I quite enjoyed have a genuine ‘away trip’ with other fans on the train to the coast. Again, the makings of a genuine football experience.

Is it me or has the standard has not being the best so far? I still see too many technical errors from most teams which you can understand given how long the pre season has been.
Another reason why we need an longer season, the euro leagues margin for error is more smaller than us probably due to the short turnover of seasons so the players could get into tune more quickly whilst here it usually takes awhile probably 8 to 12 games till see the best standard of football.

I’m with you for I have watched a few games of late.
Oh it’s the start of the season some say come on….
Your a pro team training daily - the main thing missing normally is match fitness ! And settling in I get that.
I have found it’s a lot of ping pong, messy, lack of possession here there everywhere.
Maybe exciting to some yet it’s end to end messy imo.
Anyway early days eh end of the short season will be more fluent haha

Why does Pispoco have a groove that I think he could be a Goodwin 2.0? I hope he becomes a late bloomer by staying fit and playing well. Some X-factor there.
In cricket and football a lot of our players have peaked late the last generation

Piscopo has always had the skills but injuries and not being the right team( Nix and Jets) has hindered his progress.Apart from a cracker of a goal he was oustanding in general play-willing to go forward and attack defenders and as the game went on he appeared to be roaming across the line creating problems for the Bulls defence.

Yeah, even though WSW vs ADL game was exciting, the overall quality was atrocious.

CCM vs Perth was abysmal.
