A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 4

Having a good look at at SFC v Macarthur, the former played some good possession football before Matthews was sent off at close to half time. It is good to watch their system in possession, with quality off the ball movement supporting the SFC ball carrier. This enables fluent and steady build ups, with effective rhythm changes.

Macarthur's play when it was 11 v 11, was more based on accelerated attacks.

I've just read that Jakolic qualifies for Socceroo selection, virtue of his Dad's Aussie heritage. Keeley Adamson at age 21 shows promise at RB for Macarthur.

Despite being sent off, Matthews is a very talented young CB. Segovic continues to develop, as do Courtney-Perkins and Popovic.

Incredible bicycle kick goal for the Bulls!
What did you think of Quintal on debut? I thought he was the best player on the pitch when he came on. He's got some serious technical ability & great passing game & only just turned 18. Jakolis with 4 goals & 2 assists from 4 games, is probably the form winger in the comp - definitely worth keeping tabs on for the Socceroos.

I stopped watching at the point of Matthews' red card. Games of 11 v 10 aren't great for the neutral.

Both Robbos and Barca4Life have been impressed by Quintal too.

Will look out for him next game. Really pleased to hear he is only 18. However, many young players in all eras, look very good early on, then peak early or fade out. Think Daniel de Silva (looked he was going to be a Socceroo great), Stu Musialik, Ben Kantarovski, Kaz Patafta, et al.

Quintal must be good, because 3 different people have seen similar quality. Will watch out for him in the next SFC games.

As I watched the end of the Vic v Roar game to its conclusion, as a team unit, Roar had a lot of ball. They were the more dominant team, apart from the final third.

A number of Roar fans aren't happy, but the attacking third featured a lot of nice aerial crosses into the box, that Waddigham had to move backwards to contest, or jump from a standing position. If he could have moved forwards and jumped at the same time, it would have been more effective, as he often out-jumped the Vic defenders.

Teague had little ball. Credit to Roar for starving him and deploying effective Squeezing.. Valadon had more ball and used it well, and, broke up more attacks. Like Like Phil Moss opined, I thought he was one of the best Vic players - in being disciplined holding team shape when Roar had the ball, and his superb close ball control when on it and passing range, is a sight to uphold!

Another emerging Vic player is LB, Bos. Looks very good for a young player.

Piscopo is superb on the ball, but can go missing for periods.

Sad to see CCM as a shadow of their former selves against Nix - and now the AL club representing us in the ACL.

Good to see Milanovic score a hat trick for WSW. He has an eye for goal that exceeds most wingers.

Add to that the Roar

If, and a big if, Roar can sort out their play in the attacking third, offensively, I think they will improve as the season goes on. They broke up a lot of Vic attacks - who usually dominate their opposition.

I tend to agree. Unlike Glory who have been smashed twice already this season, Roar have been playing ok and have been difficult to beat. Auckland and Victory are both undefeated so far this season and in both matches Roar only needed a little bit more quality and composure up front and the score lines could have been very different. Then against SFC they should have at least taken a point. They are on the right track, but I reckon they may need to make some adjustments during the Jan transfer window.

Juan Mata has joined the world of football ownership 👔

The ex-Chelsea and Man Utd midfielder - who currently plays for Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia - has bought a stake in San Diego FC.

The club will play in the MLS next season 🇺🇸

Thought I'd just chuck the Mata news here.

I only see social media snippets. Is he even needed at WSW? It seems a bit of a panic marquee. They've got some good young local players already.
