A thread for a bitch, a moan, an opportunity to try and understand why a decision was given/not given or, God forbid, offer praise to a ref.

There's a couple of us refs here, and others that have a really good handle on the laws.

I'm not the font of knowledge to all things reffing but I (or someone else) might be able to point you in the right direction.

First things first though. I'm petitioning IFAB to ban holes in socks and mini shin pads. What a bunch of bullshit both those things are.

haha a appropiate thread for you Muz.
Agree good having its own thread instead of mixed in another discussion.
Mate good luck re that banning, whilst the top flight pros keep doing minnows will follow.
Christ even my young sons do it, they get 2 pars of socks, cut off the foot section of one, like wearing their own short socks but pull over the cut ones up the leg.
I just don't get it, comfort I'm told.

I'm pretty sure I saw a recent IFAB memo that basically puts those micro shin pads at the discretion of players. They're approved to use as shin pads, but in terms of if players think they're safe enough to use, that's on them.

Yeah they did. I still think it's garbage though.

ccm match
Clip?

EDIT:
Just seen on the highlights. I mean... Yeah that's tough - Nathan's first A-League game too from what I gather, he's put a lot of work to get this game.

First glance was no foul (arm coming back to the body, so not making it unnaturally bigger). Probably could say there was a bit of separation (hence the original call for a penalty). The separation in the between the arm and the torso is probably something he wouldn't have been able to see in real-time, hence the decision to reverse.

I think by the time it hits him his arm is in a natural position.

However, my understanding of the way the handball would be interpreted this season (as told to the clubs before the start of the season) was that is only one aspect. The other is the distance travelled. i.e. was there an opportunity to get your arm out of the way completely. Given the distance travelled and the interpretation given to the clubs I think the Glory player was very lucky. I wonder if Nathan was feeling intimidated by KGV doing the VAR.

If the interpretation stays as happens on the weekend then that is fine. But I suspect other calls will go with the pre-season interpretation

If I have my info right, this would have been his first game with VAR as well...

You never know how little you know about the rules of football until you have to ref a game.

You never know how fast it is until you're in the middle of it.

It's like when you mountain bike at 25 kms an hour and trees are whizzing by. It feels like you're doing a 100. That same 25 km on the shoulder of a highway feels like you're barely moving.

The TV coverage and a birds eye view gives everyone a false sense of how easy it should be. It's not.

The goal plymouth scored v portsmouth definitely wouldnt be allowed in asia. But thoughts overall of the goal?

Agree with that, both are fucking ridiculous. And while you are at it, also add in that footless socks need to come down to ankle level. Some players have their undersock visible halfway up their calf.

Since your starting a petition, can we do away with pink boots.... FFS what ever happened to good aol Copa Mundials. or Puma Kings?.. lol

haha feck the pink boots, how about we petition Nike completely out of the game.
Crap paper thin - soles let go utter crap I've replaced enough for the kids as they were coming through and on syn pitch's worse.
Some new ones let go within a game or 2.

We have a ref in my area nicknamed the 'sock nazi' because he goes to town on these cut off socks.

I make them pull them down and tape them if they're different colours.

I do wonder how many more goals Messi, Ronaldo and Maradona would have scored if they only had access to grip socks.
