Are you blind? Referees discussion thread.

We have a ref in my area nicknamed the 'sock nazi' because he goes to town on these cut off socks.

I make them pull them down and tape them if they're different colours.

I do wonder how many more goals Messi, Ronaldo and Maradona would have scored if they only had access to grip socks.
Good on him, there should be more of it. It needs to be policed more at the professional level, there are some bad sock/undersock setups in the A League at times. Although I did see that Feghani had a go at a WU player a couple weeks ago.

I'm with mono. Not only would I bring back black boots as compulsory I would make a rule that says socks have to be pulled up and shirt numbers for the starting 11 are numbered 1 to 11.

How much pain if a team of boffins decided to have numbers like Pi on their shirts. Poor ref trying to add all the decimal places correctly on the card...

Or a team of mathematicians choosing things like i√u.

Silly question - but is there a rule about shirt numbers being positive whole numbers?

Surprisingly law 4 doesn't mention numbers on shirts only distinguishing colours. Hunting around it appears numbers are a competition requirement not an actually 'law'.

Weird.

A thread for a bitch, a moan, an opportunity to try and understand why a decision was given/not given or, God forbid, offer praise to a ref.

There's a couple of us refs here, and others that have a really good handle on the laws.

I'm not the font of knowledge to all things reffing but I (or someone else) might be able to point you in the right direction.

First things first though. I'm petitioning IFAB to ban holes in socks and mini shin pads. What a bunch of bullshit both those things are.
I'm not surprised you're a ref.

Back off the pink boots. One of my granddaughters used to call Borello "Magic Pink Boots" and he was her favourite player. Bloody pinksists!!!

I tried out Kelme's a couple of times, pretty good actually.

I wear the Nike tiempos. And they're black.
famous players since 94 on wore em, Cantona ! Ronaldo Maldini !!

I've used all the late Nike glove fit ones the last 10yrs for 2nd son same boot size, some are ok but damn OTT price wise.
Can only pick out the less coloured ones for his boot selection is like Imelda Marcos haha
Like I said we don't see them last long nowadays - pretty typical of all product today.

These adidas boots are essentially my ref boots.

Rotated between these 3 while playing though: (silver version of the Pumas though) - and the third won't let me copy in for some reason

Interesting tidbit about Mundials (and many other real leather Adidas boots), is that they exclusively use kangaroo leather. Funny thing is they abbreviate it to k-leather because people overseas don't like the idea of slaughtering kangaroos. The thing about kangaroo leather is it's about as durable as it gets. A pair of those is going to last a very long time and take an absolute tonne of abuse. The sole is going to give out before the upper will.
