Unfortunate. Massive chance at a win today. Ipswich have avoided injuries fairly well. Burgess isn't done yet. Luongo may seek a deadline day loan.

It's probably not about that

There is pressure on players, particularly in Italy, to not declare for distant countries since that means u travel a lot

As in Italians with alternative national team options? Understandable yet they don't mind signing African and South American players, do they?

For me it's about bargaining power. If it's a half chance for a distant nation then boss him around. If it's a gem from Uruguay or Japan then don't upset them too much.

Apparently it's also an issue with African players being pressured into turning down call ups

The clubs can get stuffed. I really hate it. They know how international football is for many players. I get they're bankrolling it but does that mean they'd refuse European internationals? Business class travel and modern sport science. Simples.
