Australia open 2025

I would have preferred the glamazon but not fussed tbh.

Like what exactly?
The comments from both parties (namely Djokovic himself, and the whole Tony Jones debacle).

Boo him for winning, go nuts. Booing a player because they’ve torn a muscle and tried to play on is as anti-Australian as it comes (given some of the celebrations for players that have played on injured in AFL and NRL grand finals)

Oh yeah absolutely. Sorry, I viewed it as a package.

Channel 9 treating the AO like the footy has been bang average and I'm glad they are being called out for it. If you had Andy Harper on comms he would go into detail about Australian - Serbian relations and made a massive deal about the cultural collaboration of our two nations.

Instead we got that shit. Channel 9 needs to get their shit together.

Channel 9 treating it like the footy is so true. It's a world class sporting event need to be more professional

I can help, I mean I’m technically trained 😜
Then let's do it.

I sure as hell won't ask dumbass questions referring to someone as their daddy or whatever it was. It's just so frustrating because you need to pretend you are an ambassador at an international competition. There are only 4x2000 events. Wimbledon, Roland Garros, New York and Melbourne.

We need to start acting like an international destination, not a hick town.

Record Broken:

2025 was the most attended Australian Open of all time and probably tennis event in history.
yer I read a Tilley article yesterday about this - attendance.
School hols and all.
The experience is his selling point, even though most attending didn't get into a court for viewing but sat outside in front of the screens.
Good on them.
What I don't like overall is the ol vibe of the past Happy Slam we are/were the great tennis polite supporters now as times changed people are more out there (ala football hooligan behaviouir haha) we've become the bogan rude crowd.
Seriously like WTF, the history of typical rude yanky behaviour at the USOpen for decades, the spanish crowds have their utterly rude moments, the French, what a beat up media and SM is today.
Friggin joke.

Its media beating down on Aussies. Murdoch loves it.

I only learnt about the Happy Slam this year. What a load of shite. Just a slogan to sell the event. Tennis has always had a football hooligan element to it.

For those in Brisbane, the QTC International is on. It's a Challenger 75 comp so most of the Aussies who got up to the Qualifiers and Round 1 are playing. As it stands all the foreigners are out and live streams and draws can be found here:

Ofcourse it was a selling beat up but also it was true back in the early days TSF.
We were the well behaved good sporting nation from the 60’s 70’s and before typically polite and admired well behaved sports people and didn’t call out bad behaviour for it was rude.
In someways like Wimbledon types all white clothing yadda yadda and the players luved the easy going nature of the Aussie way therefore the happy slam was driven.
A lot has changed since those Anglo dominated days.
I recall it well.

On a slightly relevant note - makes me wonder why All Elite Wrestling didn’t call their upcoming Brisbane show “AEW Challenger”
