Lucky to be ahead. A couple of huge chances for China this half. Looks like we've done enough to top the group though.

Young Socceroos will play their AFC Under 20 Asian Cup quarter final on Saturday Night against Group B runner up kickoff from 10:30pm Melbourne Time (about an hour after Melbourne Derby concludes) at Bao'an Stadium in Shenzhen for not only semi final spot & qualification to the 2025 FIFA Under 20 World Cup held in 🇨🇱 at stake.

This needs to be the new normal. The fact it is knockout to qualify rather than a group stage like the seniors makes it a bit random, so I read more into our group stage performances than whether we qualify

Japan since 2006 have qualified for the knockouts everytime but have survived the first knockout 4 times out of 8.
South korea in the same time have been knockout kings, qualifying everytime but being knocked out twice in the group stage.

So our rivals survive the knockout 10 out of 18 times, slightly better than a coinflip

having said that....we need to qualify haha

To answer my own question, south korea have gotten 9 points once, Japan 3 times out of the last 8 tournaments (not including this one).

Over the years we've had that many youth games on YouTube that I can't remember what they exactly were. I remember some mini tournament in a jungle but it wasn't the Myanmar one. Hosts did brilliantly then but it didn't equate to much for the men's team. Have to check YouTube later for old highlights. The mid 10s were diabolical at this level.

yeah we had that awful period where there were no academies, the ntc was too new to have an impact on those already through the SAP and the ais was shut down along with the nyl

the senior roos are a current product of that vacuum of a system (or no system)

Not to rain on anyone's parade but China had 2 tap-ins that they missed. Lucky to get away with that as a win.

It will be interesting to watch the replay, I usually have a different perspective watching a game twice. In any case 3 from 3 has only happened from 5 times from the last 25 attempts between Japan South Korea and Australia

Absolutely nothing against you personally, Muz. I agree with you. I find the sentiment however often harshly criticised if the shoe is on the other foot and Australia miss tap ins. I guess there is high criticism for doing so. A framing of 'we suck' rather than 'we should have won that'.

I've just seen the highlights and the latter tap in. Wow, he's stumbled there! Do you mean the missed header was the other one? I'll wait for AFC highlights to show if there was anything else.

Interesting to note the highlights don't show ourselves creating other chances and I don't think we did?

We could still get anyone from group B (or could we? Maybe only 3 of the 4 would technically be possible given the results and eventual placings) . Iraq are technically sound. Saudi are Saudi. Jordan will annoy and North Korea would be buoyant should they scrape through.
