After watching last nights game for the first time I don’t see it that away that they were technically superior to us in fact it was quite even for most.

We could also make argument we went away from our strengths to try and compensate for our technical deficiencies but it seems we found the sweet spot now with the traditional strengths along with the improved technical skills.

The key thing now is maintaining it for all youth teams and hope this feeds into the senior team which has not been seen.
Some of the first touches and ball movement by Japanese players, particularly in the second half, were absolutely elite for a group of 18-19 year olds. Nick Schmidt was a standout and only 17 years of age.

We also did some very impressive things not often seen from Australian underage teams, but I think Japan still edges us when it comes to technical skills. Important to remember that we are about 20 years behind Japan in terms of what we are trying to do at youth level.

The signs are there that what we are doing is working, but we are not at our final destination.

Lets just enjoy the current success instead of talking ahead, like the smart ones quote just look at the next game.
We do this all too often and not much has prospered imo - their path is in their hands and the selectors, so much can change in the next year or so.
I think that's how some people do enjoy it. By thinking of a bright future. Things can change, i'm sure they will, but its fun to think about what might be.

Did any of these kids play in the NPL? or is that a thing of the past?. Cant remeber the last time anyone good came out of Sth Melb or Maconie....

you obviously are not up to speed reviewing up and comers, Toure being from SA its obvious there is only 1 pro club, played in their NPL where he cut his game time mustard, just 1 eg.

Yeah lets forget that Toure (and his brothers) played for Croydon until 15-16 and "entered the Aleague finishing school pty ltd" ... sheeesh some people are thick. ... or they just dont seem capable of googling anything.

saw myanmar's dominance in the 60s-70s brought up

curious how good their senior team was at the time

its hard to tell since they withdrew from every international tournament including the asian cup and even youth world cups

they did dominate "the asian games" though. Not sure how serious that competition was

they have since become a bit of a minnow

Same time as Millwall v Palace in the cup ah noooo
in other words a great night as Saturday eve's into Sunday morns are during the season.
TV showing one game the mobile or laptop the other, I'm sure you can cope :)
