Trying to get my head around the change of association rules. Looking at point iv, does this mean that friendlies count now, but they've extended the number of matches from two to three?

A request to change association may be granted only in the following
circumstances:
the player:
i) was fielded in a match in an official competition at “A”
international level in any kind of football for his current
association;
ii) at the time of being fielded for his first match in an official
competition (at any level) in any kind of football for his current
association, he held the nationality of the association which
he wishes to represent;
iii) at the time of being fielded for his last match in an official
competition in any kind of football for his current association,
he had not turned 21 years old;
iv) was fielded in no more than three matches at “A” international
level in any kind of football for his current association, whether
in an official competition or non-official competition:
v) at least three years have passed since being fielded for his last
match at “A” international level in any kind of football for his
current association, whether in an official competition or non-
official competition; and
vi) has never participated in any kind of football at “A”
international level in the final tournament of the FIFA World
Cup or a final tournament of a confederation competition.

It’s not the clearest wording, not easy to follow. Does non-official competition mean a friendly, or something else? I’m not sure what it could mean apart from friendly. If it does, then yes, it looks like friendlies count, which is contrary to everything else I can remember reading.

Those terms should be defined in the document i'd have thought? I'll check it out when I get time.

Jack Hingert captained Sri Lanka the other day in a friendly and tonight they won their Asian Cup qualifier against Taiwan 3-1. There's a few other Aussies in that side too.

With World Cup qualification now secured, should the FFA and Tony Popovic take a firm stance by stating that only players who commit to the Socceroos ahead of the next international fixture window will be considered for World Cup selection?

This would send a clear message to dual-eligible players weighing up options with European nations like Scotland, Croatia, Switzerland, Italy, or Greece—that they can’t delay their decision based on how those teams’ qualification campaigns unfold.

Crucially, early commitment would also provide additional friendly windows to build team cohesion ahead of the tournament.

I think 2 caps to bring them into camp but the third cap only if they are your choice

Court the players, sure, but I dont like cap locking players. U dont want to mess with peoples lives

Loving this forum, but an absolute can of worms!!

Perhaps we need to split to players that have represented a national youth team? For example, a young forward in Croatia, Tomislav Glavan currently in the second tier, made 20 appearances this season and supposed eligible for both Australia and Croatia. Apparently being scouted by Croatia, but has never appeared at youth level for either country.
Antonis Jakolis is now eligible for both Australia and Croatia (I think, but who knows!!). Played Croatia U21 but at 33 yo, zero chance.

Anyway...a few names that I believe are eligible, have played youth football recently for a country other than Australia. Arena, Vescan-Kodor, Millwood and Chipperfield have been mentioned. Some other names that I think fall into this category: Anastasios Pisiias (Cyprus U19), Zak Gilsenan (Ireland U21), Marley Leuluai (NZ U17), Ayman Gulasi (Turkey U20), Manos Chnaris (Greece U17), Youshaa Knaj (Syria U20), Cillian Tollett (Ireland U18), Georigios Okkas (Cyprus U21) and Obren Kljajic (Bosnia U18). I certainly don't understand all the rules and don't know details around the personal circumstances of these guys, but somewhere along the line they are called "Aussie" so I track how they are going abroad.

nice list! Any in particular we should hope to nab?

Thanks mate. Gilsenan is the star, but had horrific run with injuries at Blackburn this season.
Didn’t he get called up to one of the under age teams a couple of years ago but pulled out because he felt more Irish or something. I can’t remember all the details.
