Australian transfers 24-25 winter

The MLS will be a better league than Belgium very soon if it isn't already. The U22 initiative has allowed clubs to focus on recruiting elite young talent from outside the US. More of the top junior American athletes are now playing football. Academies like Philadelphia Union, LA Galaxy, NYCFC, NYRB and Barca Residency are now regularly beating top 20 European academies - this will translate to more elite American players coming through. The World Cup will also provide a huge boost for US football. It's a good place for our players to land. The below chart shows the relative strength of the MLS compared to the Belgian top flight.

Fascinating!

Thanks.

The difference a few years ago was Belgium is using an up to date modern curriculum, similar to Netherlands, producing some world class players, whilst the USA was using a very physical model with links to gridiron.

Adelaide have Dutch defender Daan Klomp on trial. He most recently played in Canada where he won the CPL best defender award in 2023 and 2024 whilst also winning the CPL player of the year award in 2023.

Could be a very shrewd signing for us given we lack depth in defence.
It hasn’t stopped AU topping the ladder!

Joe Gauci loaned to League One club Barnsley. Yikes.

He’ll be playing at the same level as our other 3 League One GKs: Chapman, Maynard-Brewer and Bilokapic.

Game time is game time I guess
Next season needs to be a higher level tho

Barnsley fans not happy as they need strikers and their keeper has just turned a corner himself.

We have all been there for a club we support

Fans: wow our strikers are out of their depth, but our keeper and cbs are doing a great job

Owner: signs 3 cbs and 2 gas for some reason

Carlisle this winter. Another midfielder! I agree the level is too low but just to get playing again is perfect for Gauci.

Friendly rivalry between qpr and Portsmouth signing our youngsters with pearman going to qpr

There's a few themes.

Very early moves for some players which I'm not sure I like.

Very few midfielders moving.

Two good young CB's getting a go.

England seems to be the destination. Not very many continental moves.

I definitely agree there are a lot of early moves, but I think the more guys that are heading overseas young, the more likely we’re going to uncover players that are capable of stepping up and playing at a higher level.

I know a lot of them aren’t going to be able get minutes in the Championship like Bennie has done this season, but maybe he’s a decent example that some of these players might surprise us.
