Chronicles of a stable genius - all the biggliest stuff

As right-wing politicians scoop up the blue-collar vote, the left has its head in the sand, not just in the US but pretty much everywhere. And the Democrats certainly did run into a bit of trouble, during the US Presidential election by going left on the range of ,woke' themes but their stance on these issues was rendered far more problematic by the failure of the top of the ticket to articulate a credible and muscular economic populism....

The Democrats have consistently failed to understand the reasons for working class disaffection, let alone find remedies to offer them.

As Bernie Sanders put it the day after the election, “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them......”

And there's a range of specific issues whipping up the tempest...

Inflation, the cost of living, immigration, income disparity, identity politics, white male resentment, the disorienting pace of cultural and social change.....

To be blunt the Democrats aren't particularly interested in macro-economic issues facing the great unwashed anymore. And it killed them! Or it killed Karrr-mahhh-lahhh anyway!!

(Awaits the mum jokes.. .)

Typical internet induced left-leaning hipster demographic. RTS isn't one for the critical thinking. Probably a middle class graduate, with a tin pot degree....

Struggling to make sense of the world and obsessing about identity politics. No doubt has mental health issues to boot. His miserable outlook on life being the dead give away!

Are you calling the Democrats a left leaning party? Give me a break. There might be a handful of left leaning members but the rest are centre right. I would compare them to the Liberal Party here whilst the Republics are more like One Nation.

:ROFLMAO: you, Comrade, must be a Far Leftist Yourself. That way, you regard other Far Lefties as Centre.

You, being Far Left, think you are Centre. That's how you regard Democrats as Centre.

So the inquiry has to start with YOU.

Define your politics so we can see your delusion. Then it'll explain your absurd analysis.

Comrad? Are we in the military?

I know I'm a leftie. I don't hide it. I believe in having some socialist aspects to our democracy like medicare, minimum wage, workers rights, unions, human rights for all and a free Palestine! Just to name a few things. Looking after other people is important to me - Christianities greatest commandment is to love, is it not? I want people to feel loved, live comfortably and not be taken advantage of by the powerful.

that's a pipedream

this is problem with the left... they live in world of fantasy and are constantly manipulated to make things even worse

Am I the only one who farkin hates themselves for coming back to this thread when they are bored?
Yeah, it's like a train crash isn't it. I find I just can't help myself going in every now and then to see what is happening, even though I know it's going to be the same as the time before. I will try harder to ignore it from now on. Although I must admit that every now and then I do get a chuckling head-shaking moment out of some of the inane posts.

You know how Daniel Penny was prosecuted by the New York City District Attorney - why? for coming to the aid of passengers beating threatened by a crazy guy.

Now that NYC commuters know that their government will try to throw them in jail for helping fellow subway travelers, this comes as no surprise.

Watch the video to see a burnt carcass of a dead woman, with her clothes burnt off her body, and charred flesh. Video has blurred section so you cannot see her burned private parts.

No one helped her.

Hey, you people on this football forum. Let's talk serious today. If you saw someone set a fellow passenger on fire on the train today, AND AND AND you fully knew that the government would seek to send you to jail for decades, if your act of helping the passenger caused the arsonist to be harmed .... would you help the fellow passenger, or let her burn to ash? Think that Leftist governments in the U.S. are changing the mindset of people in the West.

Can't usually judge a book by its cover but it seems to suggest capitalism is failing people because of a growing inequality.

Am I close?

Not sure what you're suggesting by putting this up but if you're thinking capitalism could do with a tweak or two it seems we're on the same side.

I heard about this book on a Podcast, so I purchased it. I enjoyed reading it. While I didn't think it was the greatest book in the world it does make some excellent points and gives you things to think about. The US has flipped with the ruling elites on both sides of the political divide. Becoming more like pre revolutionary France everyday with the people that believe they are more educated than the working class proclaiming "let them eat cake."

Meanwhile they are busy attending Diddy parties while middle America is trying to figure out how they are going to pay for groceries.....

America and something like the GFC is what happens when you let capitalism off the leash.

Before anyone kicks off I'm not anti-capitalism. I just think it could be done better.

Agree with most of this. There's no point in denying capitalism because there are no viable alternatives. Socialism, communism, anarchism, nationalism and degrowth are all lovely radical ideas for the middle class kids to learn about on their tin pot Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree course, but nonetheless these things never really work that well in the real world.

The accumulation of financial wealth is a human condition that has been around since the caveman.

Unravelling the knot of privilege might be a good start if you’re looking to re-imagine capitalism but with all the middle class kids doing P,P & E and getting the plum jobs in the vessels of the political establishment unlikely to ever happen...

Those guys were bailed out by the American taxpaper to the tune of $1 trillion dollars. More like corporate welfare. Heh.

The end of that movie 'The Big Short' is great with regards to that.

Starts at 1 minute mark.

But 'deregulation is gud' right?! We need far less red tape. Musky and Trump will sort that.
