Just think about this next statement. A couple of decades ago, people like me, my values were the centre, or centre-right. How is it that, now, one generation later, the majority of Aussies are spitting on the values of their forebears. I'm no different, in my views, to most of your grandparents. How did that happen that those conservative views are not ridiculed by the majority on a football website? I can explain it, step by step, if you have time to listen. It happened by each generation taking one step to the left. And the cumulative effect after 50 years is the mess we find ourselves in now.

To answer your question from my Christian perspective ...

"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved ... For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:1-5, 8)​

The world started off with mankind in paradise with God. But mankind chose to change allegiance to the devil.

God made us with free will so we can love. But perversely, the above passage from Ephesians 2:15 says mankind used that free will to reject God, and follow the devil.

That is why, every person knows what is good - because we were made in God's image -- but we end up doing evil that we know is wrong.

So, in answer to your question: who is controlling the world? the Bible says in the above passage that people have chosen to let the devil control the world.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil." (John 3:16-19)​

This is why, for 6,000 years of recorded human history -- you have every person wanting to do good -- but it is a continual pattern of evil everywhere you look. Those people, who you think are the crazy ones - they think they are doing right. Who are the crazy ones? You and me. Every single person. We all need the Saviour.

The Democrats, using the legal system to attack political opponents, DOES WORK, because:
  1. The Media never tells the other side of the story, only telling the Leftist side.

  2. Even intelligent people are too busy with life to study the details, hence, even very accomplished people go through life believing everything the Media tells them.

  3. e.g. a person hears Trump was indicted on 34 felonies, and so the average Aussie thinks Trump is bad. They do not investigate how the Democrats twisted the system to make those 34 payments into felonies.

  4. Basically people don't care. Even when told the facts, people don't care.

  5. People have cognitive-dissonance, i.e. a knee-jerk rejection of anything that goes against the majority's beliefs.
Australia is effectively like a Democrat-run state. It has the same ideology as the U.S. Democrat Party. But in Australia, there's no sizable conservative Media to push back. Even the Liberal Party, particularly in Victoria, is heading leftward, as evidenced by John Pesutto slandering Moria Deeming as being a Nazi, when Moria Deeming was merely espousing conservative values. Hence, this football forum is like a microcosm of average Australia, where the average Aussie is Leftist. They never took time to think about their life's philosophy. They just followed their crowd.
 
Are you calling the Democrats a left leaning party? Give me a break. There might be a handful of left leaning members but the rest are centre right. I would compare them to the Liberal Party here whilst the Republics are more like One Nation.
