Germany has been a dead vessel for years. Such a poorly structured economy and with no one having kids it makes governments scramble.

But why does a heat pump cost 30k?

It's expensive technology and a luxury item. The jury is out on whether these pumps consume a lot of electricity to run. A lot of people have paid up front expecting much lower heating bills only to see the device chewing up electricity which itself has skyrocketed.

They're not mandatory, yet..... Heating oil is highly expensive and less popular. They ran a ponzi scheme on cheap Russian gas and now the horse has bolted. Shutting off nuclear power plants without via renewable alternatives. I arrived 16 years ago and the talk shows are still discussing the same points. There are about 12 middlemen for every process so nothing gets done and everyone earns. They'll go hard another 15 years then all retire and it's not their problem.

So as I was saying before this is a failure on part of the German system. I paid like 500 bucks pre pandemic for 2 split systems to be put in my house running on electric. I put them on for a half hour in the middle of summer and we're all good.

I hear similar issues in the UK too and I am baffled. Maybe because we are closer to Japan?
