Football books

what i will say though is that this book is a combo of 'soccer' drills/tactics (the 'australian' way?) as well as history. probably hasn't dated well but will be interesting nonetheless....
oh wow now I'm super curious

Johnny warren was keen for us to play like brazil and ran a lot of coaching clinics. Would be curious what the content is

Are there any books or media that go into club culture? I always find it interesting when a losing club hires a coach who is able to turn them around I'd love to see a behind the scenes of that

I've gone through my collection and picked out 3 of the older ones. Not read them in ages, in fact probably not prior to publication of sheilas, wogs... The Wade and Arok books in particular (from memory) have (as you'd hope) some good stories about the difficulties we faced qualifying for the world cup. I have tickets to the Japan game later in the year and I think I'll have a reread of these leading up to it.

Read th ePaul Wade : Captain Socceroo book. Good read!

The old scenario re qualifying for WCs was tough!

Met Wadey a few years later as he was running a coaching clinic in Tas. My adult daughter assisted him, amongst others. Wadey is a top bloke! I'm surprised he hasn't been an AL coach? He has good social and communication skills.

Read some Brian Clough books.

The greatest is Duncan Hamilton's. Hilarious too!

Clough and his mate, the talent scout, Peter Taylor, as his assistant, turned every club around!

The Lusetich book is a great read.

The Paul Wade book has some useful stats at the end (I think)

Some good pictures in the Soccer in Australia book.

If you don't mind fiction, Heimebane (also known as Home Ground or just Home depending on the streaming platform) is an entertaining series about a Norwegian club with a new female manager.

Next Goal Wins is very different but based on a true story about the American Samoa national team.

If you want 100%, couldn't make it up, non-fiction you can try watching Roar games for the last few seasons then hope like I do that next season will see the fantastic turnaround you are after...

None of them are probably what you are looking for and certainly not books but you did mention other media.

Thx for mentioning I'll check it out.

Roar can definitely be turned around with a new gaffer I'd love to see it

I do remember a novel which I thought was called Goalkeepers are different I read at school. There is a book called that by Brian Glanville. However this one was set in Sydney around Erskineville. I've been looking for it but no luck.

Yes, I’ve got the Brian Granville one. Haven’t heard of or seen a different one.

Reddit has a list of keeper books:

The Outsider: A History of the Goalkeeper
The Keeper: A Life of Saving Goals and Achieving Them
The Goalkeeper's History of Britain by Peter Chapman
Keeper by Mal Peet. It's fictional but not too long and fun to read

if that rings any bells.

Also "In the Way! Goalkeepers: A Breed Apart?" by Nick Hazlewood sounds a bit like Goalkeepers are Different in name, and a blurb I found on it includes Pat Jennings.
