Football books

I might add that Mr C was voted as one of Australia's favourite football books by SBS World Game readers a few years back. That was nice.
Mate, you don't have to plug Mr C the football book. I'll do it for you. I'm reading it and I'm at the 155 page mark. I'm loving it! I'm a huge fan of it and your writing. I've posted about the fiction aspects of the book in the general Book Reading thread.

I'll post about the football aspects here. I'm not using your real name though, as doxing is rife.

Pasquali is happy for authors to conduct Q and A sessions on here, whereas on book reading threads on another forum, it is against the rules. I take my hat off to you, Mr C. You are a very talented author. I recommend all avid bookreaders on G and G FC read Mr Cleansheets.

After thinking the tenets for writing it were strange, Mr C fits together beautifully. The genre I consider comedic, romance, and of course there is a football element. The latter I'll address in this football book section. I don't want Mr C to end ATM, it is so entertaining!

Well done Mr C
LFC, you have to read it.

I've read renowned comedic authors Marian Keyes, Graham Simsion and Kathy Lette, and Mr C is right up there with them. Plus there is the football element.

Recently I've read globally/Aus renowned authors Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling, Michael Connelly, Harlen Coben, Ian Rankin, Linda le Plante, Chris Hammer, Dervla McTiernan in the crime genre; Bernard Cornwell, Diane Gabaldon, Philippa Gregory in the historical fiction genre; and Marian Keyes, Graham Simsion, Kathy Lette writing in the comedic genre. Mr C loses nothing in comparison.

We have a veritable celebrity in our midst on G and G FC!

What can I say Decentric? I'm humbled by your review.

All I can say is that if you're only up to p 155 the best part of the book is still stretching out in front of you.

Keep telling everyone though. Vulgar Press were only small with bugger all marketing clout so despite finding a niche audience, Mr C is still fairly obscure. My most popular novel is about a very naughty lawyer - Straight Jacket.

Nice to have a good author on here, Mr C.

Authors provide great pleasure for many other people who like to read. Or don't have the diligence, commitment or talent to write books themselves for others to read.

For mine, you should have derived enough income to be a full time writer and wealthy enough like JK, Lee Child, John Grisham, Bernard C or Diane G.

I'll plug your book on another reading forum and on my home FB page when the meta ban stops next Monday.

ATM authors, Exercise Physiologists, craft brewers and craft breweries, chefs/cook book authors, progressive political organisers, plus musicians, all enhance my quality of life!

The cover is cheesy but it's written by an agent from the point of view of a Club Secretary set over the course of a season. Very entertaining.

In Mr Cleansheets it exemplifies the change in football in Aus now, from the training/coaching in the book - then.

There is a lot of isolated fitness training done, which involves isolated running completely devoid of game related training. Now if coaches are doing their job properly, all fitness training is game related - technique on the ball, team Ball Possession, Ball Possession Opposition ( Full Press, Half Press, Partial Press) , Transitions, three thirds of the pitch, etc, etc.

Any running off the ball - it would be team shape related without the ball, or with relay races players would be running with balls at feet, not without.

Another difference is coach Ronnie, often gives last minute instructions as players walk on the pitch - that these days would have had targeted entire coaching sessions in 4 stage sequences, to improve on the training track.

Another facet of Mr Cleansheets, which makes it eminently plausible from a football perspective, is that teams in England compared in the FA Cup all the way down to Conference level. This is very inclusive!

The fact EPL, Champ, Leagues 1 and 2, plus Conference 1 and 2, all compete against each other in the FA cup, plu promo/releg, is wonderful.

It needs to happen here with promo/releg, like it happens in England amongst these 6 divisions.

Protagonist, Eric Judd, starts playing for a Conference 2 reserves team.

Finished sheilas wogs and p%£tas

it was interesting seeing different figures treated differently by him and gorman. One head of soccer australia was portrayed as an anti ethnic villian by gorman and a visionary being resisted by corrupt special interests by warren!

I think learning more about the 74 campaign makes it so much more impressive what they achieved getting there!

After learning about warren im pretty convinced he would have been happy with just about every decision made by the fa the last 2 decades, apart from the club identity policy and might have grumbled about lack of youth development.

He seems to view the lack of popularity as the thing holding the sport back and views the usa as a big source of inspiration for how to crack the problem.

sure he was stupid quoting playing for the Roos was like surfing for England but it was about right back in the day as much as it hurts, I was embarrassed recalling that interview.
Those days OS Clubs played much harder ball not to release players and then there was issues with the ol SAF over monies/flights
treated and he also made the error if reports are true wanting match/week payments equal to his LFC salary ????
At the time he was the biggest name in Oz playing for a top flight winning side (what a side) and being absent he would have lost his place for sometime for thats how it was back then.
There we're times HK/Dukes didn't make themselves available due to their commitments and the long travels.

Yes we all have regrets that he would, the Kop loved Roo so I expect the book was well recieved, be interesting to know.

NO aussie player will get this much on their mantle piece or man cave playing top flight football
No other Aussie would have made that Liverpool side, not Kewell, not Viduka, no one.

Are you a closet red follower ? Or that you just know the era as well as me due to our good age 😀 or the few ex Rangers players went to Anfield ?

Saw "the a league the first 10 tumultuous years"
worth a read?

I worry that unlike Gorman and Warren's book it will be less fun to read a book where I'm likely to know most of it haha
