Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is out of contract at the end of the season, and Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that discussions are ongoing between the two parties.

Salah recently came out and spoke to the press about his contract situation, insisting that there was no offer on the table. The former Chelsea man hinted that he was more likely to leave the club as it stands rather than sign a new contract, but it's unclear whether it was a clever play from Salah to try and force Liverpool's hand.

Last time out, Salah struck twice for the Reds in a 3-2 victory over Southampton, and he's enjoying an impressive season despite reaching the latter stages of his career. Understandably, Liverpool would be desperate to keep him if the financials are right, but he's already on a hefty wage at Anfield.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has now provided an update on Salah's future at Liverpool, suggesting that despite the Egyptian forward's comments, Liverpool have held discussions with the attacker over a new deal...

"When Mohamed Salah says that there is no bid for Liverpool, doesn't mean that there are no discussions between Liverpool and Mo Salah. So formally, an official bid arrives when you make sure you are aligned, you are on the same page on the financials of a contract, in this case, new contract at the club. But talks, Liverpool sources insist, took place with Mohamed Salah, and Liverpool still plan to have a discussion with Salah to understand what they can do and what they want to do together on both sides, club financially and player financially, technical point of view, project. So they still plan to speak and talk again to Mo Salah in the next weeks and potentially months. So Liverpool feel they are still there."
Salah reportedly earns around £400k-a-week including bonuses, so Liverpool will understandably be cautious about offering him a pay rise considering his age. On the other hand, considering the performances he's still producing, losing him would be a disaster, especially if he departs on a free at the end of his contract.

Luv seeing Kloppy here !

Our team has now become the Slot Machine I tell you !
Thank you again to Jurgen leaving a Team that still has alot of fire in its belly - we have aging Legends still not past their peakthe way they are playing and brilliant young players coming together.
Slot has inherited and come into a perfect storm :)
I still can't believe what I'm seeing and being just 13 of 38 games I just don't want to get ahead of myself.
We smothered citeh in that 1st half, smothered them.
They only got 2 shots on target whole game !
Hadn't beaten them for 2 yrs.
I had fears missing Konate but damn, Joe done a brilliant job as he does normally but this was big.
Macca/Gravenberch are possesed in the midfield, the other week that manc Ferdinand describe our squad like a pack of starving dogs pretty right.
Gakpo has gone next level, Slot I think leave Diaz up front.
MO, what a frigging ball for Gakpo's tap in.
Man you missed a couple but the pen, made amends for last week nailed it - you are getting into KK/SG levels for our Club, Legendary, I really HOPE we get you signed for another season.
Zobo, what a game - I luv your workrate and skill.
How smart by our Club picking Slot, Klopp was brilliant to rebuild everything about the club and us fans and Slot another astute business decision that has exceeded expectations so far.
Upon his signing most of us wondered wtf, brilliant.

Gakpo is "Most improved" by a country mile for me... what a season the kid is having eh?

yer and Gravenberch, he also has been unlocked so to speak.
22 25yrs, Klopp has a great eye !
Throw in the young scousers alot of seasons ahead.

Konate, Bradley, Jones, Elliot, Nunez, Quansah, Gravenberch, Gakpo, MacAllister, Szoboszlai - 10 players all under 25 - thats some future squad
Loved listening to the City fans on talkback radio blaming injuries and the like now Arsenal fans still claiming weve had it easy and Chelsea fans thinking they are back in the game Its embarrassing to hear them bleat constantly 😆
Meanwhile we just go about our business winning every game - yes its not over yet and there is a long way to go but Im just enjoying the ride and just look forward to the next game YNWA

As mentioned in game thread hard game always at St.James.
Drives me nuts for many times we could have taken the 3points but end up drawn.
Point is a point - a good lesson for the lads.
We got out muscled in the midfield on the rare time this season.
Their goals could have been avoided but that’s the game.
Kudos to them they sure played it very well.
MO was absent for the 1st half due to the above but came alive 2nd.
Good call on the subs by Slot.

MO is a legend still unplayable many times and I just saw this list of achievements of his that is mind boggling and such a bloody long read/list - amazing.

OK bring on the derby - this is a banana peel for me, they are desperate and frigging Dyche's tactics always difficult to play AND its the last Goodison game and they are fighting relegation places :(
Quite a few out, Macca suspended, Konate please recover fast, Bradley, Tsimi, Jota still out, ok about Ali for Kelleher is doing fine between the sticks.
Slot, bench Nunez please, nervy game to say the least.

Always nervous playing Everton but take all the derby crap away they are 15th in the league it should be a straightforward win and yes Nunez was poor last game but this is a fixture I believe made for him - I feel he will not start though and come on as a sub, have to win this - last game at goodison my arse remember when we lost the last day of the kop before seating came in to Norwich it happens a lot spoil the party, get the points, get outta there 🤣 cmon reds!!

Yes true re Nunez the front wrecking ball could be good to start - we wait and see.
No matter where they are on the table you know we have a big game.
As long as we take some chances earlier we’ll be fine but bloody Pickford could again be that spoiler.
