They did, but momentum in games can change quickly. I had people telling me in the 60th minute on Monday "no way these kids will score, they had all the ball against Heidelberg and couldnt score,"..we saw how that panned out lol.
in fairness, it was off the back of some pretty horrid defensive lapses.. First goal was poor Marko pass, 2nd was free player at front post (unforgivable for experienced defence) and third goal was us committing too far forward and being caught with our pants down....

Not trying to take anything away from the Victory youth but those were NOT goals a serious NPL side should be copping...

Leech had an interrupted pre season and missed a big training block right after Xmas and looks like he only returned the week of the Port Melbourne game and then hasn’t been sighted since so maybe picked up another injury?

Brennan looks cooked can’t run out 60 minutes, if we really wanted to challenge we should have signed another winger and Brennan should be coming on and causing problems for teams with half an hour left

I don’t think Inglese and Archibald should be playing in the same midfield we look way too slow. Archibald and Mells were an unbelievable midfield duo for Port a few seasons ago, if we add someone like Pope or Halfpenny in there we might be ok until Leech comes back and then the midfield 3 would be Archibald, Mells, Leech but Esteban does love his tall defensive midfielders in the side

Andy ran his guts out at the Port game ... and was solid during the Community Shield final ... even the Knights game he put in a good shift... I agree he was pooped on Monday though....

7 changes to lineup, what a fkn joke lol
The take aways from me were the following:
1. Our depth is nowhere near as good as what we hoped, especially not for as long a season as this one. Pope a good example of this IMO.
2. Our fringe players given a perfect opportunity to shine, didnt look hungry or worthy at all, like Leech etc.
3. Teams have worked out Esteban and its showing. The long balls style to no one/ nowhere was frustrating! Especially when you dont have a classic imposing striker (in this case a steiker full stop!)
4. Our defence continues to struggle without serious explanation as to why, unable at times to string 2 passes together.
5. A lot to get in order by friday night! Only standout was Mikkola (only) and partially the subs at start of second half. Lets hope Javier is ok!

Worst of all though, yet again we looked borderline disinterested and lacked any conviction especially when we went behind and everyone expected a reaction!

is the lack of connection perhaps these players literally never having played together and thrown onto the field like its a scratch match?

Painter Andrews, Lampard, Mells, Brennan, Archibald all left off the team sheet with Bonada on the bench, why? And now we've lost Lopez.

Now all these guys will return against Preston not having played for 2 weeks and we will lose that game anyway.

Im sitting there almost wanting st albans to pile on more goals to expose this embarassment of a coach.

Everyone around me was fuming when the lineup was announced, most wouldnt have turned up if they told us they were going to do this.

What a disgrace! 3 points is 3 points no matter if you’re playing St Albans or Preston.

Who decides whether we play home games on Monday night especially knowing we had Preston coming up on the same week on the Friday night?

The squad depth is not good enough compared to a lot of teams in the league this season. The mid table clubs have recruited well. We used to get away with it over the last few years but it’s going to cost us this season. Avondale/Preston have 2 players in every position.

At least if you’re going to give the players a rest before the Preston game at least put them on the bench and bring them on at half time or start them and try to kill the game off early then take them off.

We got rattled by Preston FFS!

Think we are cooked to be honest. We've copped 6 goals last 2 games, tonight exposed we have no depth and quite frankly the coaches tactics have probably run its course regardless. Morale would be very low going into Friday.

Nights like tonight can destroy the fabric of a football club. I can handle losing and i've seen many crap performances and seasons, i cant accept what happened tonight. Literally throwing the opportunity to finish the round in clear 2nd spot for nothing.

Dinamo have every right to feel robbed... Clear Jankovic handball in the penalty (not to mention later he should have received his marching orders for second yellow card) and a phantom offside call when they had a legal 2 v 1 driving into the box ... result SHOULD have been 0-5.

That was the worst 90 mins of football (and I have watched alot of absolute shite over the years) I have witnessed since we basically threw away the Australia Cup game aganbst Avondale 3-4 yearsa go at Humes ground ..... in VERY similar corcumstances..... SOMEONE made the dumbest football decision olf all time... and SOMEONE should have the balls to come out and apologise....

NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Last night we just threw the whole season away .... nothing more nothing less.... It was either the board or the coaching staff that made an arrogant, stupid, misguided (you pick) decision that backfired spectacularly... I

As for us not having depth in the squad, sorry I tend to disagree... 7 starting players sitting in the corporate box enjoying themselves and laughing at the shit we served up... 7 !!!!!!!!! Take 7 players out of the matchday squad of all but the top 3 EPL sides and they too will suffer the same fate ..... that was a club mistake and WE deserve an explanation.

Athletics have had the ground booked from Fridays to Sundays for a while, you can watch most of the meets on youtube, hence the 2 Monday night games played and a 3rd at the end of March.

I almost stopped supporting the club after the Avondale debacle a few years back, last night is not far off tipping me over the edge, im regretting purchasing a membership, im regretting my attendance last night, and im seriously considering going to watch Brunswick City instead on Friday night.

Im sick of the club glossing over this, what happened last night was not ok, a statement issuing an apology to the supporters should be made, 300 odd ppl rocked up last night hoping to see Souths best team put in a serious shift to win a game of football, instead we got a disjointed team thrown together like it was a January pre season hitout.
