Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

I think getting a result against Hume is possible given Mikkola and Bonada will be back, and we’ll be starting our midseason transfers.

It’s the Dandenong Thunder match that will be tough.
Dandenong Thunder have lost their last two games and the last time we beat them was at home. We play them at home Sunday so should be possible for us to get a result I think.

Thunder is a more complete side than Hume, they will press high and have multiple options, we will naturally given the lack of options up front sit back and look to counter .. this has been problematic each time we have tried it off bat this season... shutting thunder down is harder than Hume where if we can hold Kirdar then the rest dont flow and we will be at full strength (fingers crossed without any further outs vs thunder - impossible if we sit back as we will pick up cards again)...

Should get the six points in our next two games easily especially since both games are at home and both Dandenong Thunder and Hume City, the teams we face in our next two, are coming off the back of losses in their last games.
I think you give too much credence to the home ground advantage... and good squads/teams off consecutive losses are closer to bouncing back than suffering another loss.. Hume tonight gave the best side in the league the bergers a very tight and even match. .. heres hoping we continue hitting our current stride, our full choice defence holds solid (big ask) and we would be happy with just the 1 - 0 scorelines in both.

Jamie young in goals and the number 15 Dutch centre back are quality. They have a few journeyman in attack like Dekker and Clarke and the Japanese kid they got from Northcote is a huge threat. The one thing going for us is that they are nowhere near as good on the road as what they are at home. We cant read much into the last 2 games as they got played off the park by the best 2 teams. Clearly up to now Thunder are the "best of the rest".

I'll stick my neck out and say if we win on Sunday somehow we stay up, it would be by far a bigger scalp than Preston.

After the high of last week the timing of that goal was deflating... as others have said lets hope its a wake up call to board firstly and to the players and coaching team thereafter. Its obvious that some players are not of a level...Missing Mells showed on the park today.

I thought we defended very poorly at times, Lopez made so many amazing saves but they were constantly unmarked in the middle, you could see Javi visibly getting angry. We need some serious firepower cos i doubt we will keep a clean sheet in the remaining games.

Apparently Fornaroli will make his decision this week over whether he will join George Cross or South, george cross is the favourite to land him but we may seriously need to look at boosting our offer cos our wastefulness in the final 3rd was diabolical today. How can you have so many chances yet Jamie Young makes no saves?

I think its just our way of copping if we are rejected.

Anyone who watched todays game and thinks this bloke wouldnt change our fortunes doesnt understand football. Lethal in the box (which we dont have) excellent at holding the ball with his back to goal ( which we didnt have today), great vision, smarts etc.

If we are genuinely a big club we get this move over the line, we have more to play for than George Cross and anyone else locally he may be linked which includes Oakleigh.

Time for the club to land us a big fish.

Its a lot for sure, but surely "big hellas" has a sponsor or something that can come to the party.

Where are the maltesers getting the money from? Its not like our budget has been huge this year either.

Do we wanna stay up or not? As it stands we've got less firepower than the teams around us.
