Socceroos' current market value vs Asia

I am still shaking my head that "the Dutchie" took this kid to a World Cup off the back of a couple of minutes in friendlies and a few step overs in the Aleague.... just blows my mind.
To be fair there wasn’t many young talents breaking through during that time and Arzani was a standout as well.

I think the ACL injury was a big turning point for him.

Look good luck to him getting picked out of the blue way back then.
Pity nothing much improved - tbh I’m baffled how much that acl tear set him back.
They go to the best surgeons.
Great rehab etcetc we’ve seen countless players carry on very well in their careers and at that young age when occurred it really shouldn’t have set him that far back in confidence - obviously it did in his case.
I agree with Poppa and about time someone says how it is and he should t be alone.
Plenty are not delivering full stop.

I think Poppa has been lurking on this forum and he too is sick of waiting for these "promising talents" to actually show something....

Probably a welcome rocket. Apparently never did his acl recovery properly. I also curious why there is never any power in his shots. Just fluffs off his foot

Again about poppas shots fired at the kids

The "kids dont know hard work these days" approach worked with Newcastle jets.

Probably a mix of all of them. We should trying to convince clubs to sign young players on 5 year deals... that's one way to do it. A-league clubs rip up contracts all the time, then said player literally joins a rival on a free hahaha...which is crazy to me so that's one way to stop the duds.

A lot of trash agents too who are the brother/father or cousin of the player who maybe doesn't do the best job in getting the best fee... agents in Europe sometimes work specifically for the club to get a good deal.

500k for Bennie who has played some minutes in championship is insane... there wont be many 18 year old's getting game time in that league. Archie Gray went for 40m quid was it? surely Glory could of got ~2m for him.

TBH I'm not sure we ever will, the modern game requires supreme athleticism... our best athletes play AFL or NRL. That's just how it is unfortunately. NRL/AFL clubs are proactive in the search for youth they out there looking for these athletes(even if they play another sport), I don't think NPL/A-league clubs are... they just have a trial game and see who shows up.
I agree that the problem is a mix of issues.
As far as contracts are concerned, they are all in a "gentleman's agreement" basis. By law, you cannot stop a person changing jobs as it is considered a restraint of trade. This applies to the AFL as well (I don't know the type of contracts the rugbies do). The current legal setup is that both club and player sign the contract knowing full well that it is a restraint of trade but if one party wants to break it then they have to come to a mutual understanding. This format was devised by the codes and the corresponding player associations. It works but I am waiting until a player challenges it in court.
Are our players worth as much as an English player? Well, if you were an English club you would know the setup for juniors very well, you may have even been keeping an eye on them since they were 7. Harder to do when the kid is living in Australia. Then there is the perceived quality of the league. Even the Japanese national coach does not respect the Scottish League. Someone with the ability should have a look at the transfer fees for Scottish and Greek youths when they move to the English leagues.
Athleticism is required for some positions (depending on the coach). What is the point of a goal keeper that can run 100m in under 9 seconds? The AFL only recruits from basketball for the height. They have had former football players but they don't make it. AFAIK they only have ever had two players that had played a rugby code.
More critical is the headspace. Being a professional sports person regardless of sports (I don't consider darts a sport nor golf) requires discipline to train, to eat, to listen, to practise. Self motivation is paramount. Kids with these qualities have the opportunity to make it.

I don't think it was the ACL. I think that he always had issues in his head. When he was at MC, Warren Joyce tried to instill discipline in him, then in Europe, then at Macarthur and now at Victory. Not only that his body only lasts 60 minutes.
I think that Poppas message about youth is more to the fans than anything else. You only need to read this forum to see people getting excited about a player who is at the English League 2 and how they should be in contention for the Socceroos. I'm as guilty as anyone as I think that Jake Girdwood-Reich should be in the Socceroos ahead of Matthews.

which player are in england's league 2 are people excited about?

I was being rhetorical.
fair enough, but it kind of feels like people are pretty measured here tbh. There is an uptick in youth getting minutes here and abroad which of course we are gonna get excited about, but has anyone on this forum said such and such is the next kewell or viduka? (not counting trolls)
